Trump claims wind turbine 'noise causes cancer'

Yes, fuckhead said that.

Quote:
“If you have a windmill anywhere near your house, congratulations, your house just went down 75 percent in value. And they say the noise causes cancer,” the president said while delivering remarks at the National Republican Congressional Committee's annual spring dinner. He offered no evidence to support the claim.

I believe they call it infrasound.

Infrasound, sometimes referred to as low-frequency sound, is sound that is lower in frequency than 20 Hz or cycles per second, the "normal" limit of human hearing.

Supposedly, it's not safe to live within 15 km of a wind turbine.

incidences of mass die-offs of farm animals, chickens laying soft-shelled eggs, high animal miscarriage rates and disappearance of wildlife near turbines provide pause for reflection.

One sheep farmer in Waterloo, Australia had a three-fold spike in birth defects since the turbines started operating. This year, lambs have been born with no ears, three legs and hoofs turned backwards, the Australian newspaper reported.

In Germany, a dozen dead porpoises washed ashore near the site of a newly completed wind farm and authorities did not rule out the wind facility as potential causes.

Discovery Magazine reported that a Taiwanese farmer blames the death of 400 goats on a nearby wind facility. His claim is backed up by a local livestock inspector who said unusual sounds can impact animals’ appetite, growth and sleep.

Dr. Nina Pierpont, author of Wind Turbine Syndrome, interviewed a horse breeder who lost six of eight babies after wind turbines were erected nearby his breeding mares. Some aborted early, others had no milk and others didn’t conceive.

So you're saying that East County Magazine, from San Diego, is an "alt-right wingbat source"?? And the 2 women who wrote the article are Trump supporters? LOL!!

So i guess this German research study is totally made up?

^^ BladeLIAR the unhinged lunatic is so desperate to make Trump look bad that he doesn't mind windfarms making people and animals living nearby unhealthy & sick! Sorry but public health is a non-partisan issue you lunatic!

There are wind turbines just outside of Montreal - I have visited them up close. They make sound that for sure some would call annoying. But dangerous? No.

When I was a kid my family and I used to live in Montreal East. We were about half a mile away from an oil refinery (Texaco I think). Not only was it noisy, there were smoke stacks pouring out all kinds of things, along with giant torches burning off excess oil.

As a kid I thought it looked like a city because it was all lit up at night. And when my Dad and I would return from a weekend trip to our country house in St. Sauveur Quebec, the incredible smell would it us as we came close. My dad would joke "Ah, we can smell your Mothers cooking" and laugh it off, but I could also see it worried him. We would not normally notice the smell living there all the time, but we always noticed it after returning from the fresh air of the St. Sauveur mountains.

The smell wasn't the worst of it. Some days there was a yellow haze through the entire neighbourhood. You could "taste" the smell.

My dad told me that before I was born, that there was a big explosion at the oil refinery that was so hot, it melted all of the snow off the roofs for several of miles around the plant, and that the sky was as bright as a sunset even at 3 in the morning during the fire.

My Dad, my Mom and my sister all died of cancer.

So would I like to live near a Windmill? Fuck yes - I would take that over living near another oil refinery any day. No question man, no question.

I never said that fossils are better than renewable energy. last one is obviously much better, but living close to turbines is not good for health. Just this. Yeah, its better than polluting planet for millions and the whole earth, but still - noone wants to live close to wind farms, thats why they build them outside of everything (usually)

Says who? And why?

If you want to say that the noise someone might be subjected to living close to a wind turbine could cause stress, and that stress can lead to earlier than expected death, but is that it? Is that the whole argument? Sound doesn't cause cancer.

It's no the sound, Mark. It's the low-frequency infrasound.

Come on Mark, I thought you were all about science. This is not a partisan issue. Your hatred of Trump has blinded you to the facts.

Conclusions
The dominant source of wind turbine low frequency noise, LFN (20–200 Hz), is incoming turbulence interaction with the blade. Infrasound (1–20 Hz) from wind turbines is not audible at close range and even less so at distances where residents are living. There is no evidence that infrasound at these levels contributes to perceived annoyance or other health effects. LFN from modern wind turbines are audible at typical levels in residential settings, but the levels do not exceed levels from other common noise sources, such as road traffic noise. Although new and large wind turbines may generate more LFN than old and small turbines, the expected increase in LFN is small.

Wind turbine noise is associated with residential noise annoyance. It has been found that 10–20% of residents are annoyed, and about 6% are very annoyed by wind turbine noise at levels between 35 and 40 dB (LAeq, at 8 m s − 1 wind speed at 10 m height). The main cause of annoyance seems to be the pulsating swish sound produced when the blades pass through the air. This sound has its main energy in the frequency range of 500–1000 Hz.

Except for noise annoyance, no consistent effects on health due to wind turbine noise have been reported. However, a statistically significant association between wind turbine noise and self-reported sleep disturbance was found in two studies.

It has been argued that infrasound and low frequency noise from wind turbines may cause serious health effects in the form of 'vibroacoustic disease', 'wind turbine syndrome' or harmful infrasound effects on the inner ear. However, empirical supports for these claims are lacking.

Maybe the post wasn't clear. There are two parts. The first text was a quote from a scientist that had been studying the effects of wind farms for 5 years.

The wiki link was just to point users to more info on wind turbine syndrome.
