OCR = Optical CHARACTER Recogition

Which means when you scan the document, the software will try to extrapolate what is written on the page and then create seperate layers for each text element which you can then move around. This is the "lifting" part.

Depending on your settings and in which software you open the document (such as illustrator) the interpretation of the layers and where they are placed can be wonky. This happens alot when importing different medias across seperate adobe platforms. For example, importing Premiere projects into After Effects will often fuck up transitions made in premiere.
