What functions is the dog to serve? Each has its pros and cons.
Companion ... for an adult, child, or another pet? Protection ... to bark, or protect against attackers? Exercise ... jogging, hiking, or ? For sheet intelligence, the Collie breed is #1. Identify the two or three breeds that fit your needs and see who among your friends have them. Make time to spend it with you friend and his or her dog. See how they interact, and ask the questions you have directly to them. Even better if you can spend time with a local breeder. Good luck!

I had a collie growing up. They are awesome dogs, highly intelligent but their coat can be a bit of maintenance and lots of shedding. But they are all around great family dogs and can be protective.

It all comes down to training. Beagles are a little harder to train, but with a little patience, and a handful of treats, they're wonderful companions.

The upside to getting a Beagle, is the fact that they are historically known for enjoying smoking and being Smokers... This means there's a very good chance you can bum a fag from your pet, should you run out...

Having a dog that is very food motivated is a huge bonus though.

funny story: the beagle of one of my exes parents was too fat and supposed to be on diet - but somehow it didn't work. turns out she was sneaking out and going from neighbour to neighbour - scoring snacks from every single one of them. they basically had to forbid the whole street (village) to feed her

I had a Beagle before. I loved her to death. It is hard to keep them home though. They have an incredible sense of smell, and drive to hunt. Every chance she had, she would escape, and go hunting.
My favorite dog i ever had was a yellow Labrador. They are really smart loving loyal pets. They are big though and they shed hair bad. |

The beagle in my pics is a greedy bastard. He'll do anything for food! And I hated that he stared at me while I ate dinner. So I taught him to go to his bed and face the wall when I eat. He still looks over his shoulder when he thinks I'm not looking.

My dog pulled a fast one the other day.....he acted like he had to go out. When I opened the door, the other dog who had been chewing a bone ran outside. My dog picked up the bone and walked off with it.

It's sad how beagles looks like they're perpetually starving . . .

I have puggle. Mix of beagle and pug. Lazy as fuck.
Never fetched anything, always buried new toys in our backyard. Hates playing with other dogs. Howls like crazy every time I leave the house. I love him to death. |
