Anyone From Fiji?..

It's a long shot but stranger things have been answered on here - I need to buy someone a birthday present here in New Zealand - He is Fijian and likes a beer - So, obviously Fijian beer - There seems to be more than you would imagine - Anyone know one that wouldn't insult him?..

The obvious question one should ask oneself; is it a friend of your mum or a real person

Buy him some kava.

Edit: if he is with you there, drink it with him. It tastes sort of like dirt, kind of, but is a ceremonial drink in Fiji. This is a special gift because it will be hard to find, and he won't have anyone to drink it with.

Kava

Beer or brewery? Just ask him, you are both old enough it doesn't have to be a surprise.

If he rebuffs just tell him he can get what you know he likes, or you can guess

You used to be able to buy it in the supermarket here - Not sure if you still can...

New Zealand has a large Islander population.....

Well, yes, because technically you guys are South Pacific, right? Remember that proposal that was being floated by AUS to have a EURO style market in SP? Of course, AUS economy is 8 times larger than all the others combined.
