Or there's this one for just a tenner?

Get this instead of the first one, and you've doubled your profits already!

Does that include a licence to make copies and publish them?

If I buy a book, read it, then give it to you to read, that's cool isn't it?

but, if I take the book, copy all the words identically, print it out, get it bound with a cover, and sell it on Amazon for the same price as the one I bought...???

Well, OK, that's not so cool... But that would be making copies and publishing it. Not giving it to you to read for free...

He mentioned uploading (= making copies) to tubes, not selling the DVDs. If you buy a DVD, or a book, you need a licence to make copies for other people.

But a 'tube upload' is merely a cloud backup of something he legally owns though?

Is it legal to make backup copies of my purchased DVDs? In a word, Yes; you can legally make a backup copy of the movie you purchased. As long as it is for personal use. As in, making a copy to use, for yourself

So you think that by uploading to porn tubes he means making backup copies for his personal use?

Well, its exactly the same thing.

Say I have a lump of rock in my front garden. I take a chisel and sculpt a lovely statue with my bare hands,. Or alternatively, I pay a professional sculptor to come round, have him use his chisel to create a wonderful sculpture, and I pay him £100,000.00 - Either way, its MY sculpture, in MY yard, for ME to look at through my windows...

Well, I cant stop people passing by from looking at it as well, over my garden wall, if they choose to do so, can I?

A 'tube' is simply a free, suitable and appropriate place, where he can store his backup and look at it whenever he so chooses. If he tried to use a different form of backup, he may not be able to do so, due to it being porn. He can hardly use youtube can he?

I'd suggest he used a DVD disc personally, but then who even uses DVDs anymore?
Hence why a porn tube is the ideal, and legal storage solution, for the legal copy of the disc he legally owns...

Your sculture is a physical piece of work while movies are digital works, quite different things to compare. People looking at your sculpture are looking at the original physical work, not a copy of that original work. Also, in this case, you are the author of that work while in case of bought DVDs, you are not the author (or copyright holder), you are the end user who has bought a personal licence to use that work = to watch the movie.

No, a tube site is a public video sharing service accessible to everyone, so unless you mean private uploads, it is illegal. I believe he means public uploads, not private ones.

Making a backup copy means creating a copy of a copyrighted work for your own private use. If you make that work accessible to other people, you are not creating a backup for your own use, you are creating a publicly accessible copy without having a licence allowing it, which is copyright infringement.

If this was legal, then every single thief on tubes could excuse his actions with this very same argument, that he only makes backup copies for his own use.

Only the author / copyright owner has the right to decide who and how can disseminate his work.

And the legal purchaser of a PHYSICAL PRODUCT (a DVD / CD etc) has a legal right to MAKE A COPY for the purposes of backup, should something happen to the original, purchased copy.

I agree that if you download / digitally purchase an 'adult movie' you do NOT have a right to create a copy. However if it is a physical product you purchase, then Im sorry, but you legally do have the right. Remember, I didn't make the law, I'm just following it...

That said, you have to store that copy somewhere. Can't keep it at your house, incase of a fire (hence the backup) - Can't really ask your pals to store it (embarrassing) - Can't leave it round your parents (Dead) - Can't really use a safety deposit box (expensive) - Can't upload it to youtube (no Porn) - So a tube it is then...

Where would you suggest he appropriately stores his legal backup so not only that it is safe, but it's also where he can easily view it from any of his devices ?

FWIW, I am also against people who steal in order to earn money from the content. Be it by reselling it, charging others to view it, or presenting it for free in order to make money of advertisements surrounding the illegal stolen content...

But pink24 would be doing none of the above - Just archiving a legal digital backup in an appropriate place...

As SpicyM kindly noted. As long as it’s a personal backup (private upload) there is no issue. But if he uploads it publicly (so it’s viewable by anyone, anywhere), he is distributing copyrighted material without authorization. That’s... illegal.

Yeah try using that logic when uploading a Hollywood movie or a pop song to YouTube, or a file locker, or a Reddit page, or Instagram...you will get bitch slapped like a $2 whore. Please, the law. Read up on it mate.

Upload his porn collection to a PRIVATE cloud backup. WTF man you are having a piss, you are not this dumb. LOL

And that's my point. He never said upload it and make it publicly viewable. I never said make it publicly viewable.

Its the laughable outdated laws that I'm really mocking here.

Plus I did get the GFY Troll of the year award, so I thought Id better live up to it !

He said, "upload it to porn tubes". If he really just wanted to make a backup (which I highly doubt), he would use a single tube site.

I have never heard of anyone uploading copies of his legally purchased DVDs on a porn tube for the sole purpose of creating backups - that makes no sense. You can create copies of DVDs and save them as ISO images on your hard drive without relying on some porn site notoriously known for piracy.

Thanks for all the tips.

The porn is my own private collection, owned by me. It's around 20 years old now so pretty dated.
They have been sat in a drawer for the last 20 years and both CS and the other posters are correct. I wanted to upload them to a place where I can store them permanetly so they are not in the house.
I have kids now and I'm concerned they might find them.

I'm not bothered if it's private or public either and I could just do 1 tube unless there is a service that uploads to multiple tubes simultaneously.

I do have Dropbox but I don't know if they get funny about porn.

Trust me, there are many users on tubes who believe that they can re-upload anything they find online and don't even know it is illegal. Some of them call themselves "content curators" and believe they do something good for the community, so there is nothing to surprise me.

you must have 10´s of 1000´s of disc, a film is 1gb, only 90mins on a disc usually...

most tubes need hd, amazed you have content on dvd not on drives?
