The Beatles - Get Back - Disney +

Anyone else enjoyed this? Fascinating to see behind the scenes of what was an iconic event at the time, and to see how the Beatles put some of their music together... Interesting to watch them as a band, as they tried different lyrics and song structures for some of the music I still listen to today...

Very long, but worth the journey, albeit broken up over a few sessions

My old Coke dealer was around in the sixties on the sunset strip when all those bands like the doors etc, were hanging out plus lenon used to hang out at the whisky.

I watched parts of the documentary. I am a big fan of the Beatles but I must say that this almost 8 (EIGHT!!!) hour long documentary was a bit too much for me

Apparently it was supposed to be a two and a half hour movie, then became six hours because Jackson didn't want to spend just a few minutes on each day, even though some days are boring AF, and literally nothing happens on other days where there's no film or audio.

Plus he wanted the full 40 minutes on the rooftop even though three of the songs are just Get Back, and the most interesting aspect is the reaction and comments from the people below.

Then he was told there wouldn't be an extended DVD (there is no way there won't be tons of different cuts of this), so he threw in another two hours that he'd cut out to get down to six hours. So it became eight.

Unfortunately that means while it's an incredible technical feat - 20 minutes in I had remember this was the actual Beatles and not actors, because they looked and sounded so different from their 'performance' mode in crappy quality video and black and white - and there is some great stuff showing the camaraderie of the guys and they play songs that end up on Abbey Road and their solo albums, lots of people will miss it because they understandably either give up or fast forward/skip.

Because of the 'restoration' involved in this, I watched Jackson's They Shall Not Grow Old, about front line British soldiers in WWI. On a technical level the 'enhancing' of typical grainy black and white sped up silent footage we usually see from 100 years ago is incredible, and at 90 minutes it's a far easier watch (apart from the trench foot).

It's incredible. Watching them sitting there working out the songs as they write them.
And then recording the album LIVE!
No headphones, no isolation booths, no overdubs. Just the band and Billy Preston on Fender Rhodes & organ sitting in a circle with PA cabinets blasting out the mix as they sang and played into open mics!
And Glyn Johns producing it with the "5th Beatle" George Martin mixing it down...just incredible.

Stunning. So sad it was the almost end of The Beatles. I feel they had minimum of three more years in them as a band. Still great to watch tho!!

It's a pity they didn't film the sessions for the final and best album, Abbey Road, where even a car accident couldn't stop Yoko showing up, lying in a bed Mr Ono had specially installed for her in the studio...

until one day...

Quote:
I noticed that something down in the studio had caught George Harrison’s attention. After a moment or two he began staring bug-eyed out the control room window.

Yoko had gotten out of bed and was slowly padding across the studio floor, finally coming to a stop at Harrison’s Leslie cabinet, which had a packet of McVitie’s Digestive Biscuits on top.

Idly, she began opening the packet and delicately removed a single biscuit.

Just as the morsel reached her mouth, Harrison could contain himself no longer. ‘THAT BITCH!’

Everyone looked aghast, but we all knew exactly who he was talking about. ‘She’s just taken one of my biscuits!’
So now you know the real reason for the split.

I've only watched the first part so far but its quite amazing to watch Paul work out Get Back seemingly out of nowhere or walking into the studio with Let It Be ready to go.

The Beatles are amazing. I am not a fan, but if you read of their history from the early days... Everyone thinks of them as being so "nice" and square and their early days... LOL.
