I am satisfied with my hosting provider for years, so I am completely out of this market and have no idea what people are using these days

What I need is a cheap host so I can diversify the new small sites I am making. Nothing serious, just a package where a few small sites will be placed. These are WordPress installations with WLs on subdomains.

Good hosts in the shared hosting space that allow adult are very rare, many of our customers reached out for recommendations and I'm often at a loss on what to say. We've never offered shared hosting, so not a competing product, but although I'm always happy to help even outside of our product scope, I've never been able to locate a solution I could recommend.
Our smallest unmamaged VPSs are $10/month and often customers will choose this solution even when it is overkill for their needs because of the security and also because we are adult friendly. It sucks to be booted out of your hosting because their updated terms are anti-adult. If you are ok with that cost - please feel free to make an order on mojohost.com. If you are looking for basic management, the cost will be closer to $30-50 monthly. In the latter case, please reach out and I'll see what I can bundle and discount.

How much can you do yourself?

I run everything from cloud hosts and CDN's, it's very cheap and excellent quality of service. But you need to know what you're doing to some extent.

Recommended for developers but there are plenty of tools for the novice, ie simple WP installs:
