Utterly Scandalous!!!

Every boy who grew up in the 1950s remembers sex magazines. Playboy and others. We called them "girly" magazines. In my family, my dad bought Esquire Magazine and a magazine that I believe was called Bosom and he hid them under his bed. My friends and I would look at them while he was at work.

I didn’t live in a city so I didn't see newsstands selling high school boys sex magazines "under the counter." But in our town, the local magazine store which was a stationary store kept them wrapped in paper wrappers so that you could not see the covers. And the barbershop had some sex magazines but when I went to the barber, I was embarrassed to grab one although I certainly wanted to see it.

By today's standards, most of the 1950s sex magazines were very mild. By the late 1960s, after a free speech Supreme Court decision, you could but really shocking porno magazines even if you were under 16 years of age!

Pornography of course is nothing new. The Romans and Greeks had it and when I traveled to Greece, I visited an ancient town where you could still see pornographic drawings on the walls of the public toilets.

I know that some of my subscribers blame teenage violence on video games. Others blame pornographic magazines and now pornographic internet videos for current sexual attitudes and behaviors. That just does not make sense to me. But in the 1950s, as this very short news clip indicates, the powers that be seemed to feel that they could stop teenage boys from heading in sinful directions by blocking the media. Obviously that failed not only in America but in every Western country that tried to block it.

I never did tell my dad that I read his Esquire and Playboy Magazines. I wish that he was still alive so I could share with him how my friends and I would sit around and read what he had hidden under his bed.

A few years ago, I read an article who said that AT LEAST 30% of tube traffic was underage customers (like 15 yo boys jerking off off their phone).
Can't find that article anymore now.
But it's probably true.

this comes down to parental advice and the parents, as you can´t buy a phone or get a contract without being over 18...

It is funny how (in France at least) parents are being hold responsible if a teenager bullies/harass someone, while they are not under their supervision.
Meanwhile, for their usual scapegoats, strangely, it is no more the parents.
It is the video games, it is the system, violence on TV (never stupid programs with idiotic plots), it is the porn websites, it is the tabacco industry (but not peer preasure), rap music, violent music and so on and so on...
