What does being Queer mean?

I have seen some people say they are Queer, but I have no idea what it means.

It seems to be no more than a term uninteresting people call themselves to sound interesting.

So why is it part of LGBTQ+, and does queer simply cover LGBTQ+ then?

Queer is a word that describes sexual and gender identities other than straight and cisgender. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people usually would identify with the word queer.

It sounds like it is used by people who are dull but want to pretend they are interesting, and one suspects no one cares.
