Unless you get lucky or buy something hot, for $1K you're better off saving the money, and just buying a nice $100-$200 watch. If want to invest in a watch that will hold its value and be an investment you need to add a 0 after the 1.

That's not true at all man, there are more watches in the world than Rolexs, Patek's, Piagets and the likes.

I'm saying if you want a quality watch that will hold its value and be a valuable collectible, you're not going to find one in the $1K range unless you get a steal from someone who doesn't know what they have.

Enlighten me if I'm missing something. I've bought and sold many nice watches over the past twenty years.

Almost anything with Diamonds on it will retain it's value as do most large name brands such as Tags, Movados, Hamiltons, and a few others, but you have to stay Swiss made and or have diamonds on it. I know I can get an iced Invicta like 50 Cent and Tommy Lee were wearing among others for under a G, Movados, Tags and so on too. I get them all wholesale though.

Check out pawn shops in Vegas....they have good watches for
decent prices......lots of suckers who traded in their watch for
some extra gamble money and couldn't afford to pay back.

Or gamble up to at least 25K and go for a Franck Mueller if
you want to get yourself an extrodinary time piece....that holds
its value...

This may sound odd but there are also quite a few nice swatch
watches...also higher price range and certainly in your price range. Swatch are good watches and quite a few people collect
them......for a "low end" watch they hold their value very well..

uhm we had a watch thread some month ago, i remember a guy here owning a vacherin constantin... maybe he could give you some advise looked like hes a watch freak (like i am)... take a peek at http://www.watchnet.com/ youll like it

and yes $1000 will get you a nice steel 2nd hand watch with a quartz movement, tag maybe a breitling certainly not a dresswatch, so its either a casio and save $900 or save some more...

digipimp, 50 cent wasnt wearing an invicta. he has a 500,000$ (retail) Vacheron Constantine.

im sorry but invicta wouldnt be a timepiece to invest in either.

breitling is an awesome watch btw, my friend (watchmaker) just went to pick up certification on breitling.. he's been rolex certified for 12 years, and breitling's certification is just as prestigous.. it just reflects on how good them watches are.

and digipimp, i hope your not selling at cost for industry sake, atleast 25% above wholesale to non industry =] make some $ for yourself

Rolex are worthless timepieces....you have to adjust the watch
at least once per month.....replicas have better clocks than original rolexes.....Franck Mueller is considered one of the most
perfect clocks one could possibly buy......Breitling has nice watches
but the cheaper ones suck.....they're not as water resistant as
they claim to be.

What ever you do, if you want it to retain some sort of value, buy a mechanical movement. A stainless steel chorono or something. Second, buy second hand, most of the bite has been taken out of the price. Third dont get fooled by "Iced products"You pay huge mark ups for inferior bird seed diamonds. Start cruising the pawn or second hand shops to get a feel for the pricing. It is not likely that you will steal anything, but most of those guys will negotiate and give you a decent cash deal. Stay away from fashion time pieces such as Gucci and the like, they do Not retain value at all.

He was wearing an Invicta chief, you think he only has one watch. He was wearing a diamond lupah that has a retail of $12,900 by Invicta.

JFK offers the best advice in this thread.

Anyone who buys watches like Gucci or Movado and thinks that they will not lose money should they want to sell it later is delusional.

A used Rolex is where i would look. 1k doesnt buy much, perhaps a 70's to 80's stainless steel datejust. If your looking to spend $1k and dont want depreciation, the used market is the place. New watches, any brand, will be worth less right after you take them out of the box. Another area to consider is a 50's -60s Rolex bubbleback or a datejust. 1k sure puts the brakes on alot of options unfortunately.

I doubt if you will find a decent bubble for a K , unless its a hacked up piece of shit with a refinished dial. And you are right any of the fashion watches are worth 10cents on the dollar cash value. I had a really nice Swiss Army Auto Chrono last week.(sold for 450) While it is not a great brand it will keep up to a lot of use and abuse, the guy paid a 1000 for it new. This is the top of the line for This manufacturer. Something you may want to check out. But @the risk of repeating myself, do not buy a quartz watch.

its an automatic watch, of course you'd have to adjust it if it sat for a month..

infact well maintained pre-owned rolex's keep their value, and in some cases gain value.. the pre-owned market is big especially outside the USA..

like a few people mentioned, stay away from fashion watches like gucci, movado.. they have no real pre-owned value., also stay away from quartz..

its all about mechanical / automatic, chronograph etc

Tissot make a watch for around $600 that looks cool and has a touch screen as well.

Oris makes some nice watches as well in that price range.

regardless, find a local watch store and see what kind of discounts you can get. i picked up a $2950 Cartier for $2,000 and a Bulgari for a similar discount at a watch store in the middle of Beverly Hills.

Hey dudes ,

at last i bought the watch , ehehe listened some advices and did not spend too much for a watch

it was just 510$

Here is the pic of it

Mine is the one in the left (looking 100% better in real life)

""Titanium: stronger than steel, but much lighter, does not irritate the skin. With scratchproof sapphire crystal. Chrono, timer & alarm. """

i will shoot a pic of it when i get my new Canon Powershot A70 Camera within 4 days ;))

It's the sponsor of the "DAKAR" Rally
