Glo-Bill responds to Epoch

CLAY
EPOCH

Hi Clay,

Thank you very much for your opinion on our corporate strategy vis a vis the new regulations, your interpretation thereof and your experience running one of the largest processors on the net. I previously responded to Ron at CCBill on this same issue. I will reiterate what I said before, since you are bringing up our company name. First let me just say that we do hold Epoch in very high regard for being a mainstay of the industry and being an industry leader in many ways.

Without giving away the full game-plan on our strategy, I will say that it revolves around more than a simple jurisdictional issue. It were simply jurisdictional then, as some have pointed out earlier, all third-party billers would have simply moved to some other country. We did our homework for months and implemented what we feel is the best all-round solution. Under the CURRENT rules, Glo-Bill forsees no problem with its current business model and it is business as usual for us. We are not employing a "run, hide and stall" strategy as your description seems to imply. We have openly discussed changes to our business model and jurisdictional issues with both the banks and credit card companies over the course of months. We have across-the-board approval for our way of doing business under the current regime. If the credit card companies decide to ammend their rules at some future time or implement a whole new set of regulations, then the only thing we can promise is that we will be on top of it, as we were this time, and try to once again come up with the best solution for our clients.

I will reiterate what I stated in previous posts:

We will not divulge the full details on our strategies for obvious reasons. We will say that we saw the writiing on the wall many months ago and started taking proactive measures since then to protect our clients' businesses to the best of our ability. The bottom line: it is business as usual at Glo-Bill, meaning:

- No set-up fees
- No monthly or annual fees
- No reporting of your private information to any outside entity
- Websites from foreign countries welcome as always without special requirements
- No Big Brother style registration forms and no scrutiny of your website by other entities
- We help you maintain your chargebacks at very low levels WITHOUT blindly declining good signups
- Still no free trials and proud of it!

Again, Clay, I would like to thank you for your post and your opinion of Glo-Bill. I am certain that in any environment, Epoch will continue to prosper and offer industry-leading services to its clients. Glo-Bill aims to do the same but will occaisonally break with the industry to offer a different paradigm. There is certainly room for everyone and the more varied the solutions from the industry, the stronger the industry becomes.

It's nice to see that Globill has remained calm and professional through all of this.... definately boosts my confidence in what you've been saying.

I am glad I don't rely on my paysite anymore, but if I did I'd be switching to Globill. I also want to mention as an alternative to Paypal, there is Yahoo Paydirect, BUT, they only accept payments from US residents. Still, I don't think this VISA horse flop is going to apply to them either.

Actually I meant confident. They have been answering everyone's questions and comments in a very clear headed way, which leads me to believe there might be something to what they say. I'm not making a judgement call on this one way or the other. I can't tell who's right or wrong in this whole situation, I don't think anyone can yet. Different companies have different strategies, so there might not even be a black and white right and wrong. It will be interesting to see how all this plays out.

Do you really think there's nothing to their claim? I'm asking this question in all sincerity, I'm curious to know how people feel about this.

Nina,
I am VERY sceptical....VISA is not the organization which would "play games" based upon some "game GloBill plan"

I'll gladly take thorns 6 months from now for being sceptic than enjoy the thorns for being gullable....

I agree with being skeptical, whenever someone's trying to sell you something. I use ccbill and am very confident in their strategy. I would never switch processors. I just feel bad for those who are taking a blow, at least those who run good sites, and I just hope there's a way for them to work through this.

Alot of people seem to be hoping there is nothing to Globills claims. But other than snide, thinly veiled threats, there's been nothing credible against them so far.

Being skeptical and waiting to see what happens is good, but the comments against Globill have gone far beyond reasonable skepticism. Especially true when 95% of these comments are being made by people with some vested interest in Globills faliure.

After you have seen so many processors come and go, I wouldnt be looking to jump ship to quickly to someone new, I value my recurrings and would rather put them in company's that seem to be following the regulations to the letter and not trying to set a new precedent.

But that is my opinion and has nothing to do with glo bill in particular just the current situation regarding Visa. I dont believe the sky is falling.

Visa is DEFINITELY not an organization which would play games. But again, Visa as we all know it, is NOT made up for just VISA USA alone. Sure, VISA USA is all powerful, but the FINAL SAY LIES WITH VISA INTERNATIONAL; which incidentally, it seems our BIG 2 companies CCBill and EPOCH seems misinformed about and seem to think VISA USA is the ONLY CHAPTER in VISA International.

Geez, it is like getting these guys to understand that going offshore to a some foreign country whose VISA Chapter does NOT subscribe to VISA USA stand may be the correct way of doing things.

well,
I am an optimist and always look for silver lioning in every cloud and the silver lining is...
boards and business will be cleared from marginal players every time the regulations toughen.

New regulations do not affect demand,
only supply and suply side can take some pruning in this oversupplyed environment.

I do empathize with the smaller players in the market, but by the same token, I will concur that supply is a bit more then demand at the current moment. There will be a shakedown for sure. And I think even the IPSPs are going to have their own shakedown and I like to see it happen, especially to a certain pompous company whose President and CEO treats webmasters like dirt.

re: who to believe, ccbill, ibill, globill, etc.

all i can tell you is this, we use 4 processors for redundancy on 32 paysites.

in this priority:
ccbill
ibill
globill
2000charge

globill has been the best for support, we keep them in position 3 because until now they pay every 2 weeks and we feel they engage in too aggressive scrubbing (we are currently about 1% chargeback usa and international combined)

ccbill has always been in first postion---lately i have a feeling they do excessive scrubbing---their tech support is about a B+.

they pay like clockwork---and we've had them at number one for about 4 years.

ibill is number 2, i have a feeling their scrubbing is perhaps on par with ccbill, or maybe a little less aggressive, no problems with payments except now they are floating on a fairly big web900 bill to us (publicly they're blaming worldcom bk---we'll see how this plays out---we've lost many thousands to webcash, DMR, and another one that went south---so i don't believe much of anything) my opinion is if you collect $ on my customers' purchases you best figure out a way to pay me or change your modus operandi fast so you can pay me---if it does not change soon we will simply remove web900 and go with a different phone biller (we have recently installed the globill phone system).

ibill's customer support has been the worst---with their tech support the absolute worst.

we've had 2000charge on for less than a year so i don't have much of a feel for it.

BUT, globill has consistently been superior for support---and i think their tech support people are the sharpest.

whether they have this visa thing handled is still unclear to me, but in public they sure are handling it with class---and they did tell our webmaster group of visa problems way before anyone else.

so if i see they are telling the truth i will move them to number one position in the near future and see how it plays.
