I am not sure I understand your question but I use a 17" powerbook and like it very much. OSX is Free BSD based with a Apple GUI. Panther will add some more polish, some new apps and other features.

i've been using both macs and pcs for years... different tools for different applications...

but i prefer the mac. it's just a better machine. i have yet to switch to osx... too damned many frills. as soon as they come out with a version that you can switch off all the frickin' graphics, i'll use it. but technically it's a badass operating system.

i've been using my girlfriend's new compaq laptop lately and it's weak compared to a powerbook... but costs less.

some resources, tools, applications, etc. that're very useful are only available for windows. so my advice is get a really nice powerbook and keep a cheap ass used pc in case you need it.

If you are going to get a mac atleast get the 17" one it kicks ass.

Get 700+mhz and whatever base ram they come with (cheaper to bump it to a gig in aftermarket ram)

Best of luck.
