:stop Verotel will be taking over as registrar for their merchants domains?!

The last important change is that Verotel has reached agreement to become a registrar for domain names on the Internet. Currently your domain name might be registered with other ICANN accredited registrars, such as Network Solutions, Register.com, or GoDaddy. You pay annual fees for this with these registrars.

If you have a Verotel Ticketsclub account, starting November 15, 2004, Verotel will take over the registrar responsibility through one of our subsidiaries, as an ICANN accredited registrar, for your domain names for which you accept credit card transactions.

With this change, the registrant of the domain name will be Ticketsclub and not the Ticketsclub merchant. More information will be made available later this month. This change has a couple of advantages for the Ticketsclub merchant:

1. The WHOIS information shows Ticketsclub as the owner of the website. Therefore, Ticketsclub will handle all abuse complaints in accordance with Verotel's content and anti-spam policies.
2. Ticketsclub takes the domain name 'in escrow' from the Ticketsclub merchant. That means that the Ticketsclub merchant remains the ultimate beneficiary of the domain name. With your Verotel ID and Secret you can at any time choose to transfer the domain name to another registrar from within the Verotel Control Center.
3. The Ticketsclub merchant does not have to pay any annual domain name registration fees. These fees are paid by Verotel.

http://www.verotel.com/new_ipsp.html

First question that springs to mind - what happens to sites that use other processors as well as Verotel? This registrar thing seems to be a mandate rather than an option.

what i suspect is that vertotel is lumping their smaller clients that cannot afford to pay the fees and go through the registration that the pro clients have to, into ticketsclub, which seems to be like an avs, you buy a membership through ticketsclub and you get access to the site that you joined througgh

just like a maxcahs, for instance, that gives you acces to all of their sites just by joining through one of them, one of the problems with this model is that ticketsclub, the merchant, has to retain control over the sites, ie domian name and/or hosting

i heard that this was the same thing that globill was doing before visa was able to act on it, they bypassed the rules by claiming that they were the merchant for the sites and by joining through globill, you get access to one of their clients sites, like a gateway

it was simple to show that globill did not have control over the domains and the sites that they processed for, different registrants and hosted at different places

I also made that mistake -
The people running this show neither train their staff nor run a straight show - Hell - Even Sypro and Globill were streets ahead of these people - How come they are still in biz?

I'm a Verotel Pro merchant and I had thought our registration was done months ago. Verotel, does the 90 day approval wait and $1500 fee apply to new applicants only?

If this option is a MUST - they will loose many ticketsclub webmasters, if not - who cares, as soon as they are not a primary for you.

If I get it right, nothing changes for approved Pro merchants.

Got back another reply from Verotel - you can use a different domain for your members area. Your join page also needs to be on that domain. Crossing domains will break a simple cookie tracking system I have set up, but I can live with that.

I don't see why there would be a problem, Verotel uses their own cookie (on *.verotel.com) to track affiliate sales. The site ID is coded as a hidden variable on the signup form, so you could probably host your form anywhere you like.

I just talked to the merchant support. The news regarding the 90 days approval process does only affect NEW Pro merchant applications. As I suppose you are ( and in fact me being too) an approved Pro merchant already since march / april 2004 (well after all we send in all those papers...) we can calm down...

Of course, they may have a lot of new Pro merchant applications on their desks - after the new ibill desaster.

All I can say is: Trying to run my business straight and clean Verotel has been paying me each and every week like clockwork since 2 years now. You can say I'm glad that I switched over to them in October 2002 when ibill had their 1st crisis... As an EU merchant Verotel feels quite safe since a longtime, whatever you may have been reading here from time to time!!!

Well that's good news. Sometimes their Engrish is hard to understand.

I've been with them since Oct 2002 as well and never any problems either.

Reading the e-mail they sent me I'd say it's exactly the opposite. Amazes me though some see no problem with doing this. But then this remains a fun game for many and not a true business so I suppose they don't feel the need to treat it as one.
