So i went and tried to vote today

I cant frigin belive this shit. They will not let me vote in this election because of a feloney i had back in 1989. I walk in and sign in and they say mine name appears on the felon's list. Now keep in mind i got my rights back and i was able to vote in 1996 and 2000.

So i called the number they gave me to
Tallahassee to get a copy of rights restored. They tell me 2-3 weeks to get a copy and $16. Then i call the other number to have my name takin of the no vote list. They tell me 6-8 weeks after they get copy of proof. Wtf the elections are less then a week. So guess what i dont get to vote this election which is the bigest crock of shit i have seen in a long time.

Now to all you guys/girls out there get out and fuckin vote. I dont care if its for bush or kerry. Do not let yourself be denied your civil right. I bet this is going to be the most fucked up election we have ever seen.

who ever votes for kerry make sure you hit the vote button twice, once for you and once for me

NOW GET OUT THERE AND VOTE!

I thought you got your right to vote taken from you if you were a felone. So you got to vote back in 1996 and 2000? That's strange.

Monday, July 12, 2004 Posted: 3:59 PM EDT (1959 GMT)

(CNN) -- Florida Secretary of State Glenda Hood has decided to scrap a list that was intended to keep more than 47,000 suspected felons from voting in November.

Florida Gov. Jeb Bush agreed with the decision, his spokesman said Monday.

"The list will not be used," said Jacob DiPietre, a spokesman for Bush, whose state proved key to his brother's victory four years ago.

Hood decided over the weekend to dump the list, which was created by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, after news stories pointed out that the list included only 61 Hispanic names, DiPietre said.

The state's large Cuban population tends to vote Republican.

The exclusion was an honest mistake caused when two databases were merged, he said. "The way that the FDLE categorizes race and the way that you're allowed to do it on voters' cards and registration cards are two different ways."

Florida is one of seven states that bar felons who have served their sentences from voting, unless they have been granted clemency and re-registered to vote.

Felons who have not been granted clemency and who vote anyway are committing a felony in the third degree, and can be fined up to $5,000 and/or sentenced to five years in prison, said Jenny Nash, a spokeswoman for the department of state.

Without the list to guide them, it is now up to each of the state's 47 county supervisors to devise their own lists of former felons who should not be allowed to vote.

"They've already been in the process of doing that for several months now," DiPietre said. Some county supervisors throughout the state had questioned whether they had the capacity or the time to verify the names on the list before November.

Public scrutiny of the list became possible earlier this month after a Florida state court judge declared unconstitutional a law restricting access to the list of 47,763 suspected felons. The judge ruled in favor of CNN and other news organizations that filed a lawsuit to obtain a copy of the list.

In 2000, a similar list was the center of controversy when state officials acknowledged after the election that it contained thousands of names in error, thus barring eligible people from voting.

Many of the barred voters were African-Americans, who traditionally tend to vote Democratic. Bush won the state by a 537-vote margin and, with it, the presidency.

The voter-exclusion list was compiled from state clemency reports, lists of felons and other databases.

If this is true then you owe it to your country to go see a lawyer and file suite. I hate sue happy people but something like this is a much different beast. It's been publicized that the Republicain national party has been pulling some real dirty tricks with stuff like this.

Only way to stop it from continuing is to take it to the courts. I still haven't recived my new voters registration card. I moved and forgot to re register, but I did it on the last day you could in my state. So if they try to give me any shit they will be hauling my ass off in a police car because I won't take no shit concerning my right to vote.

Nope, not really at all. Not in the actual meaning intended by the creators of the constitution.

well now I notice you are in Tampa. Yea I know what you are affected by.. It's the same thing that happened last election. Hundrends of legit voters were unable to vote becouse they were on a list created by a company hired by Jeb Bush.

They fucked up the last election and as a reward Jeb Hired them again for this ellection. I'm very serious when I say you should take this too the courts. You can probably get in on a class action suit as I'm sure you wont be the only one that has this problem.

right here is an article about it.. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp..._felons_voting

" Election officials have said that anyone who feels they have been inadvertently removed from the voter rolls on Nov. 2 will be allowed to use a provisional ballot that will be examined later to determine eligibility. "

I have to look into this. But to be examined later wtf

I would be calling every newspaper, tv station and letting them know about this. Print out and show both articles and how they differ in Bush's stance etc. This country is a joke when it comes to politics.

Every state should have the exact same laws, and ways to vote for a presidential election. Leaving it up to each state and county is a joke.

Add this to the missing 58,000 absentee ballots in Florida and we are going all get fucked in this one.

Now i want to see how many youths will be turned away at the polls for some bullshit reason

No they did this the last time...and by law if your rights are restored they cannot keep you from voting.

Watch the documentary Unprecedented...it covered this issue.

Tell them you're a Republican, maybe then they'll let you vote.

So stop fucking whining about it on GFY and do something for this country!

Call 866-MYVOTE1 and see where that takes you, if nowhere, then call your local newspapers and start bitching about it to people who are actually capable of doing something.

MAKE FUCKING NOISE OR YOU WILL NOT BE COUNTED!

Were you in Florida when you voted in '96 and '00?

"Florida is one of seven states that bar felons who have served their sentences from voting, unless they have been granted clemency and re-registered to vote."
