Nice.. what do you have internal already?

One SATA drive and two IDEs, I'm pushing nearly 3/4 terabytes.. thinking a rackmount raid array, or optical backup, might be in order. What do other people use for high volume storage at home?

Nice external drive! I just got one too, mine has a 1 gig cache, 6400gigs (aka 6.25TB), but it was a little more than $200.00. Rack not included :

every Maxtor and most seagates I have had to return because the drives just fucked up. I bought 2 of those 300 gig seagates and both were bad. I use the Western Digital 160 gig drives and the iomega rocket pods

So far good luck with Seagate and Western Digital external drives. The seagate is by far the quietest drive.

It's funny how people have completely different experiences with hard drive manufacturers. I've pretty much always sworn by Western Digital, never had a problem.. yet I know a guy who ordered 8 for a rack, and 6 of them were bad.

Everyone has their horror stories.. the lesson is redundancy, never rely on a single system or storage method for the most important of files. It's common sense to backup on a regular basis and keep things in order, but people get lazy.

Me too, every Western Digital HD that I've had has lasted a little over a year & the Seagate was the same. Maxtor has been by far the most reliable for me - some are going on 3-4 years and still working like a charm.
