I've had nothing but bad history with Verizon dsl... so i'll wait until they are very well established.

They've decimated comcast's cable putting that shit in, so it better be good.

15 MBPS for a home connecction is AWESOME. Everything is changing and paving the way for HD content and higher quality movies.

They'll cap it once more people get on board. It will be just like cable. Back in 1999 my cable was uncapped and screaming fast. Then more people got on board, and now even with hacking my cap I can only get 4mbps. *screams*

Not bad, but I am sure they could use vdsl(i think) and get the same and faster speeds...I think qwest was/is doing testing with it.

my old man had it installled in northern jersey. took the guy all day to wire the house. reminds me of the 1981 when we got cable tv for the first time and they had to run wire everywhere.

5-30MPS is really great news. can't wait to it hits l.a.

Internet Thingy?

Keller TX, south of Dallas , was one of the initial FIOS test areas. It is now being rolled out in limited areas around Dallas, and it became available in my town in the spring. Rolling out the infrastructure is a very expensive proposition for Verizon. Their goal is to provide full voice , data , and video service.

I got it in June and it exceeds all expectations. I have the 15/2 mbs service and you do really get those speeds. I have had about 15 minutes of down time total, and the service is MUCH more reliable than DSL.

For lots of info, user reviews and feedback, just check out this forum:

I told you abt this at the last poker game.

how crazy is that?

I hear you can get this deal "naked"

"naked" meaning you don't need verizon telco service for the FIOS service, how cool is that?

They don't even offer it in Vegas. Paying $50 a month for cable. *sob* OTOH, I don't really want to have to buy service from Verizon and especially SBC just to "qualify" for DSL service. That's a load of crap, too.

I have it here in Tampa. I get 15mbps download and 5mbps upload. Price is only $44.95 a month and since my phone is through the same company when I signing up for it I got $5.00 off my phone bill.

Total bill a month for telephone + fiber optic = $90ish

That includes unlimited long distance in US, Canada, and Mexico.

A lot of cities are working on offering free wifi to their residents. There a few already and I know Phiily, Portland and San Francisco are working on it.

I don't think it is required, but the FIOS rollout tends to be in areas where there is Verizon phone service. In the Dallas area, those areas served by SBC are going to be out of luck since they have no plans to offer fiber.
