AMD processor - best bang for the buck?

I need some new gear and have a little extra cash this month, SO, i want a new processor/mobo

what is the best bang for the buck with AMD these days?

Is the Athlon 64 cool to get? it runs on 64 bit right? does that fuck anything up?

I found an Athlon 64 3200 with ECS Motherboard for $173/free shipping

AMD64 3500+, best bang for the buck. Do not settle for anything less than the 3500.

Also, make sure you go with Socket 939. If you want a motherboard... I recommend either ASUS A8V Deluxe or Soltek K8T800-Pro939 (or the popular DFI Lanparty which is pimp but expensive)

went there already, they are about 20% higher than www.pricewatch.com....you can never beat online deals with a local shop, even with their closeouts

Core speed. Anything less than the 3500 and you are better off with an Intel chip.

Also, the 3500+ is available in 90nm process which runs much cooler and can overclock easily to 2.6ghz

Actually, you would be safe with a 3200+ 2.0ghz if you want to save a few bucks. The 3500+ is about $50 bucks more and it's more than worth it. I wouldn't go any lower than 3200

Here is a 3200+ for $152
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103535

Just make sure it's a 90nm process and not the 0.13

I have the AMD 64 x2 3800+. It flies. Haven't tried Windows 64 bit though. Maybe after Office comes out with a 64 bit version.

Why would you need speed in office?
