Which is the best french wine?
.... thinking of giving the best one as a gift to someone... She just loves to have it in her collection and ofcourse age it to perfection

There is no "best one", and a really, really, really, really good one would cost you a few thousand dollars, probably more than you are planning to spend.

I enjoy the Merlot from Beaujolais Nuveau. Actually tried some on advice from a true Frenchie. Not too bad, 15-20 a bottle.

He wants wine that ages. Beaujolais Nouveau is not a wine that ages well (as can be guessed from the name) - it is best drunk within a few months.

Your best bet is probably to go to a good wine store and ask them for their recommendations, AFTER you have asked your friend what kinds of wine she enjoys most.

It's really a matter of opinion but Chateau neuf du pape is one I would recommend.

ok.. first of all.. are you talking about red or white wine? Huge difference...

I know stuff about red wine, and there's more than 1.3 million different wines.. it really depends on taste.. and why do you only want a french wine? Lot of other countries make great wines as well...

Beaujolais Nouveau is like water - The whole idea is a marketing gimmick - Its released on a certain day every year and there is a race to see who can get it to their restuarant or bar fastest.

To be honest thats about all I know about french wine - if you want to know about New World wines then Im your man. Esp NZ wine.
