![]() Being a recommendation on GFY i signed up to lunarpages, got setup, everything fine.
Then I install a script of mine and get a fucking 500 CGI error. I'm like... WTF permissions and everything setup correct I mail them and they're like... well you HAVE to chmod files 644 and folders 755 in order to make use of scripts they are like... well.. thats suPHP fuck them.. my script needs certain folders to be chmoded 777 and not 755 I also need some files to be 777 and NOT 644 What kind of fucked up shit is suPHP? Can someone clarify that to me?? |

It will SU into your user to run the php scripts so someone can't put a php script in your dir and run it and get access to the whole filesystem. However, it runs the CGI version of php, so it will be slower than shit. Good idea, but there are other ways to achieve security -- like getting your own server ![]() |

Your script's need those permissions set because normally PHP runs as the user that apache runs as, not as "you" on the server. The suphp switches the scripts so they run as you, not as apache, that's why the different permissions. If you do what they tell you to do, your scripts should work fine. |

On their webpage it said that they will offer PHP not suPHP sounds like a chargeback to me... the bad part is the amount of time i waste with this shit |

When searching for web hosting...perhaps you should go to webhostingtalk.com instead and look at reviews for preferrered hosting companies, like the one you just talked about.

suPHP IS PHP! just a different form of it because with your scripts they require the use of cgi (old school). You need to either deal with your old software or buy/get/make new ones because they will be outdated like...now. And please don't bash lunarpages for this, they do all they can to make us happy with our business with them.
