It will get worse. Just wait until this summer when they always jack the price up.

4.50 Can per gallon ( about 4.00 US ).

What did you expect ... The WH is runned by oil people ... they take care of their own.

In Brazil they power their cars with sugar. Its much better for the environment too. I hope they do something like that here soon.

If you had not noticed the $$ went into the toilet a little while ago and has not come out of it since. I said prices would rise in the US to balance this.

Plus oil is a limited resource, we need to conserve it. You don't like the price, drive less and smaller cars. All the fuel efficiency measures car manufacturers have devised has gone to waste by Americans driving mini buses and 4 x 4s.

Plus oil pollutes the atmosphere causing global warming, if the price was related to the damage it does it would be a lot more money.

There are many alternative to gas to fuel cars, problem is no one cares if gas is $2 a gallon.

Paul i drive a Hybrid, which if you beleive all the reports does 36 miles to the gallon. "BULL SHIT" its 24 miles at best. When Car companys start to give realistic MPG figures you will see more people buy them but until then no one beleives the hype that is put out. They don't have the insentive to make cars do better milage and they charge thousands more for cars that have fancy new HYBRID names that are little better than standard.

For every gallon you save by driving an hybrid or smaller car, there is a Chinese or an Indian willing to buy 2 gallons. The automobile park in India and China is far from being up to par with European and American anti pollution standard, therefore someone who thinks they are saving the environment by saving gas in industrialized countries are actually making it worse as they allow the transfer of unused power to countries who do not give a rat's ass about how much CO2 is expelled in the atmosphere.

I have a F250 V10 for winters out here. It isn't cheap that is for sure. Luckily I work from a home office 90% of the time so I only use it a few times a week.

You can't really compare gas prices in the States with those in Europe. Most European countries have socialized healthcare and everything else that the high gas prices help pay for. Europeans get something for their high gas prices, in the States all we get is ripped off.

Ouch, All those big gas guzzling V8's out in the US will be worth next to nothing in a few years time. Similar to what happened over here.

And China scares me - theres just too many of them!

I feel bad for everyone who needs to drive a lot. This shit is why I'd really like solar cells and wind generator when I get a house. Problem is, so few people think ahead like that, that I'm 99% sure I'll have to build it myself.

I mean, we all complain when gasoline prices for our cars get high, I sure do, but rarely do anything else about our high energy costs surrounding us. This might be a good time to go replace your 50 incandescant lightbulbs in your home with flourecents for starters.. Might seem like a drop in a bucket, but buckets are filled with drops.

Keep your furnace and car air filters clean/replaced every 6 months. Clean out your car of useless junk. Check tire pressure monthly. Use the pressure indicated on the door frame, not on the tire. If you drive a pickup, drive with the tailgate UP and closed. Maximize everything possible because those couple of extra miles per gallon is now worth fighting for if it wasn't before.

Sad thing is that back in 1974 or so, the same thing happened basically. Toyota made a killing on car sales here in the US because of gas shortages and their little cars high MPG.
So what happened? US is reactive, not proactive as usual. We tried to make a few efficient cars for a 10 or 20 years, then gave in and gave up in the last 10.

How is it possible that my car from 1996 gets 40mpg highway and uses regular gasoline, yet today you cant find more than a few hybrids capable of that?? Interesting question I think.
