Why the average engine size in USA is 2 liter and goes from there?
In europe, the 1l engines are widely and more commonly used in city drive conditions. 60hp on average, 100mph max on highways.
I drive a 1.6l 115hp which doesn't use a lot of gas, around 8liters (2.5galons?) per 100km (60miles), 0-60mph in 11seconds, 120mph max speed and fits all my needs. Yet, in the states, 2l engines are considered bare minimum? Whats up with that, because the gas was cheap until now or something? |

Better question.
Why can't we get the Mercedes Benz 3.5l version of all the fucking cars they have in Europe. The only thing we have gotten to date is the fucking E350. Where is the CLS350, CL350, S350....SHIT!

America is in general more materialistic, and more egoistic than Europe, this probably explains it
in Sweden noone brags with their car, in America noone considers driving an expensive car bragging, to begin with ![]() not to mention the fact that ppl dont think much about the environment either edit: and they dont pay with cash for their cars either |

The giant metal tank car approach, used by the russians as well, to simbolize strenght, endurance, family values and what not, driven by huge engine, in the end results with some of the unsafest cars to drive.
Eg. The cur will survive with so much metal and weight, but the occupants will be mashed potatoes. |

Once you have spent your whole life driving shitty 1 liter cars with 60Hp and then take on a car of the same size with a 3.0 V6 you will feel the difference.
The car performs a lot better, though it may use more gas

![]() few people in the US want such lightweight cars because the majority of the existing vehicles on the road today are big heavy cars/trucks/SUV's that in a collision would totally destroy the smaller vehicle and the occupants. no one wants a heavier car with a small motor either because the power/weight ratio is abysmal. so with the exception of a few odd subcompact cars, the motors tend to be larger than their european counterparts.

WE're getting a lot of the new Japanese cars with the small 1.6L engines.
Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit come to mind. I wish we had the smaller VWs here in the US, like the Polo hatch and it's 4 door variant. We're going back to the 70s. |
