Why Do Surfers Google .......

why do they google the complete URL like 'www.dawsonmiller.com'? what are they expecting rather than just searching 'dawson miller' like most people do? there are over 1000 'www.dawsonmiller.com' searches on Google so far in May.

You have to accept the simple fact: Surfers are dumb. Well, not dubm, just not informed. For them, the google search box and the address bar are all the same thing. My Brother in law does it all the time, I tell him to go to a site, and he searches for it on google by entering the URL I give him.

There are no shortage of people like that. Get use to it.

sometimes, that keyword shows different results on google. thats the reason why they type the full url. well anyway, maybe they don't know the use of the address bar.. =)

Alot of the older generation of people I see do that all time. When we had our computer repair service going, they would always be like I goto google and type my address in. They think *google* is their computer

that's what i thought but there is some trick i remember that surfers use google to backdoor themselves into a members area - i still don't how that is possible.

And it always gets her so no problemo.

But to answer your question why she does it?

Hmm well I have always told her that when she needs to find something she is to use google. So she doesnt really have a use for the address bar.

I've seen some toolbar search boxes that hide the address bar so surfers are stuck "searching" for their site.

Clients call all the time asking why another site shows up when they type in their web address (new sites). I thought it was some advanced form of hacking until i realized they were all using browser search boxes.

To help cut down on calls I buy the keyword "www.whatever-their-domain-is.com" with their search campaigns.

They don't. 99% of those are actually type-ins, only Google switches focus to its search box immediately on load, so if they're not looking they type the URL in there. Once the results load, it's easier to click the link to the site than type it in the address bar again. Happens to me too, every now and then.

I was also under the impression people do this to prevent the porn from showing up in their history. I guess some people must use Google as their full time address bar.

Honestly, most of them type it in the Google Toolbar textbox thinking its the address bar. Google then redirects them from there.

Also, they're idiots.. i've seen a few google my complete url.

Yes, but I'd venture a guess that your purpose is other than surfing them for porn.

The reason is quite simple;
Surfers type wrong URL or word, get no or few results, and google suggest the domain. Voila!

Its the same with MSN search, you can disable/enable it in the browser settings. As Google and so on. They suggest a domain (did you mean...), surfers click through, and in your tracker it looks like they typed the www domain but actually its just a suggestion from the search engine.
