Can You Retire? Planned For Your Retirement?

In this country the goal is to put away at least $1 million in a trust fund at a minimum of $10% for your retirement.

Untouchable mind you too.

Can you retire now and have you planned for and allocated assets to it?

Social Security might not be there when you hit retirement age which is creeping up and up. It used to be 65 and since we're living longer that is going to continue to increase.

Making $ 1 million may seem like impossible but nowadays a million bucks doesn't go far like it used to. That's why if you ever make a million you invest it in you.

not true

rebills die out sooner or later

if you're making $10k from rebills today, you'll make $1k of them in a year from now or so, if you don't send any new sales

I had set my 50 bithday as my retirement. The plan was get to 50, rent out my London home and go live in Thailand.

Then Eva walked into my life and I will probably work until I drop. Talk about retiring, but doubt if it will happen.

Maybe semi retire, buy a house in the sun and spend some time there and here.

True, everyone complains that retention is going down. I would say it takes a lot less than a year to lose that unless you keep feeding it.

here is a chart from the social security administration to give you an idea of how they are stretching out the retirement age.
http://www.ssa.gov/retirechartred.htm
you people who are 20 or 30 years old probably won't see it till you are 70!

Are you on drugs? $100k retirement cash is awesome. You can make a million off of $100k.

Bottom line is get it while the gettin' is good. This business might not be here tomorrow and then what?

Get your loot, stash your loot, kick back and retire good.

Thailand?

Dude, so many people are retiring to Thailand and countries similar it ain't even funny.

I work for several top medical companies that moved to Thailand. Believe you me, if you just make $25k a year it's like having $250k a year here in the states.

That's if you're into Asian chicks which I'm not. They're cute but not my cup of tea.

I hate mentioning Thailand because so many of my pals and colleagues just up and move and don't want to come home anymore.

Dude, good chart! I don't think there'll be social security for the 20-30 crowd. They'll phase SS out by then and have something else in place.

I think what would be best is a trust fund, untouchable for each working citizen so that at such an age it kicks in. Not like SS was supposed to be because the minute they started tapping it for funds they invalidated it's purpose.

Trust fund, untouchable for any reason whatsoever that reaches a minimum of $1 huge. That covers health care and anything else. If shit gets so raggedy that $100 large a year won't cover then it's time to throw in the towel.

Why is everybody so much focused on retirement?

Mini-retirements are all the rage. No need to work 40/45 years long to die within 10 years when you retire. I'd rather have mini-retirements throughout my life.

100K a year? Most people could live off of that easily and still live like a king, once they have all their debts paid off.

If you're still paying a huge mortgage then that might be a problem.

(edit: I guess it depends where you live.)

wow! This thread rose from the dead!

Thailand is still a hot retirement spot. Some problems with Muslim knucklehead terrorists but believe you me, the Thai police aren't as hand tied as other cops. They bullshit not and will route the villains.

Security means money.

Look, this is one of the few businesses that a guy can start from ground zero and make loot in a relatively fast time based on his skills and resources.

I'm sure there are webmasters here that if they were dick-broke but had a computer and a phone line would be up and running successful websites and making money in no time.

I don't work for someone else and I never will. With that said, I'll probably also never stop working...so for all intents and purposes, I am retired.

What country do you live in that you can live that low?

You can life like a king in many, many countries on that salary.

Basically if you bring home $25k + you can do great as an American abroad. Tons of material and websites and businesses that offer incredible support. It's like a massive industry out there for people who want to live great on a small budget. Especially retirees, college students, people looking to save money.

If you have a crew of friends, let's say 5 or more and each person has his own expertise and you all work together you can go to a place like Thailand and in five years make that minimum $500k doing adult sites etc. and then come home with that $500k stashed away in a 10% minimum return. That's still around $50k a year for pocket money and you can go back to work or whatever if you don't have some idiotic lifestyle.

Work, planning, friends, talent... You can't lose.

Heck, I retired once at 26!

Retirement means you've planned well enough or have been blessed or fortunate enough to have acquired all that's necessary for you to chill out when YOU want to WHEN you want to. It doesn't mean you have to stop working but that it means you can work at what you want without the fear of going into poverty and distress.

Live within your means and that is EASY. Not counting my house, I have zero debt. Life is really easy if you do not want to play catch up with the Jones.

I retired once, don't see it happening again as I am having too much fun.

goodgirl and I were discussing this last night. We have something that the goal is to get Google to buy us out on. Would I retire then? Nope. Just have someone else deal with my day to day stuff.

You are stuck with me for another 50 years or so.

This retirement thing at 30 or 40 is BS, even if you earned millions of $, why would you stop investing those millions in something at a higher level? You really can't stop and just do nothing, just sit on the beach and travel, while you're still young, sooner or later you'll need to work a bit on something ...

Soon as them boys get over there and see them girls, cheap but fresh food they'd have to pay a fortune for over here, major discount electronics and goods, cheap but outstanding housing WITH servants and TOP notch medical care for pennies on the dollar and sunny tropical weather you don't have to wonder why they don't come back home.

The air pollution in Bangkok is enough to make ya wanna come home though.

Come on now, I know there are a lot of big ballers here, but 100K a year is not chump change for the majority of the world WHEN YOU HAVE NO MORE DEBTS and already have the assets you need to survive. i.e. house, car, toys, etc. If you can't pay your property taxes and keep yourself in food and clothes for 100K a year then something is wrong. (again, I am talking about the area where I live.)

Hell, cops and firemen only make about 85K a year around here, and they certainly aren't anywhere near the poor house.
