Eric Bana was fantastic as Hector. Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom should just stick to being prettyboys.

One of the very good things about LOTR was that they picked almost noname actors. They should have done the same with Troy. Their PR machine would still have pulled people in because it's a great story no matter what.

I have read both several years ago and enjoyed both. From what I have seen of the commercials and behind the scenes, Brad Pitt should be speared for being in Troy.

You can find the Penguin classics at any Chapters in the Literature section, usually even the bargain table. They are excellent reads. I have read the Odyssey twice now, and am in the process of tackling Aenais (sp?) for the first time, which is Virgil's smack in the face to Homer. (Those crazy Romans had to outdo everything Greek).

DO read them. Then go read Dracula. I still can't believe noone has done a movie OF the original story, without changing it all to heck and back. Stoker's version is very scary and full of great characters. But that's a gripe for another thread... ;)

I read them in the original. It's amazing!!! Homer is the best and most interesting reading in Greece mythology.

Here are the first lines of The Illiad in Latin transcription:

Andra moy ennepe Mousa, polutropon hos mala polla
Planhe epei Troyes, Hieron ptoliethren eperse.

I knew first 10 lines earlier Don't remember nowadays.

P.S. I like Vikings mythology more...

I read the Odyssey every couple of years, in an original translation . . . great story.

Have not read the Iliad in a while, although I should.

Homer was most probably blind. I read both when i was in high school. I like mythology but I prefer ancient greek historians like Herodotus and Thucydides.

The majority of ancient texts dissapeared through various events, but mostly with the burning of the library of Alexandria. It contained all the knowledge of the world researchers claim. Not only ancient greeks, but many ancient civilizations had both great knowledge and literature.

I read parts of it in college. I wasn't able to see the beauty in it. I might have just needed to read the rest of it instead of only taking notes.
