How do you find out if somebody is lying about trademarking and owning a US patent on something?

look up the patent number... check out google patent search

Yeah I tried that and nothing shows up for the patent number this scum bag provided me. I even searched on http://uspto.gov/ and still nothing. Is every patent listed on those sites? Is there any other way to find out?

Ask for the patent number.

If they are legit he can provide you with copies of the certified filing papers. I received them for Porsche in the mail long ago, LOL...

Increment the number he gave you, then deincrement it.. see if there is anything near the number he gave...

Then look up other patent numbers on google and see if his number is like so far out of line with what is out there that he probably just made it up.
