SEO Domain Names Discussion

So...

I have a little question here... let's say I am targetting a low end keyword like a niche pornstar.

Lets take Extreme Kream. I wanna Rank #1 one for "Extreme Kream Gallery".

That is the only keyword I am targetting.

What is then the better domain:

ExtremeKreamGallery.com
or
Extreme-Kream-Gallery.com

Let's assume they are eqaul in any other way.

Discuss

You dont HAVE to have it in the domain. At least not totally. that mainly helps for yahoo. Not sure about google

I would go for second one (since, by the hyphens, the words are separated according to Google, the almighty), but don't go over 3 hyphens in a domain name, looks/interpreted as kinda spammy.

For that specific example I'd use the dashed version - simply because the SE's might not recognize the spelling of "kream", so giving them a hint with the delimiter could help quite a bit.

Anyway I went with the non dashed versions as my keywords only consists of words that are commonly understood.

It is a mainstream project btw, this is purely for fitting the example to adult

Thanks for some fine answers

I wouldn't register either of them, unless the domain happens to be decent for other reasons than just seo...

Even without the dashes there's plenty of stuff a SE can still pull out... here's that particular domain plugged into my "web words" finder:

all, gallery, alle, extreme, tre, aller, ler, gal, ext, ller, lle, rea, extrem, xtreme, rem, extr, eme, mek, amg, gall, kre, mga, ery, kream, galle, ream, emek, eam, remek, galler, trem, xtrem, xtr, reme, ekr, amga, treme, lery

(where web words are words that appear in at least 10% of a sample of about a million random pages on unique class Cs)

Doesn't really matter any more. Would probably go without the hyphens for the simple reason that the surfer probably would not remember to include them (for your type-in traffic).

I agree with baddog... It's not important whatsoever to have keywords in domain anymore, sure it can help a bit, but not much really... and it's tested and proved

Most of my listings in Google are from domains WITHOUT the keyterm or synonym in the domain url.

A domain with strong links, with a keyterm in the url, will pass stronger link weight to the target url (provided its relevant keyterm).

Domains with keyterm URL's are extremely effective at passing authority to penalized, or spammy sites. I have pulled 3 domains out of the google 950 penalty by using keyterm based domains (some dropped) to pass "theme" or relevance and confirm the site is indeed about "keyterms"

As with ANY ASPECT of SEO, its about the whole picture, NO ONE MISTAKE, or one properly done thing will ensure success, its the whole big picture. So while you do not need the keyterms in the URL, it can still effect the listings based on how the rest of the peices fall together.

Ranking the domain ....freeporn.com for the terms Free Porn will be easier then ranking ....erhyshttdddd.com for it, but again, its not the deciding factor, its just one that can be exploited/manipulated for better results.

Its far from neccessary, but still a checkmark in the algorythym charts. It matters less and less every year, but it is still a positive mark for the site.
