Great host $25/mbps , free server of your choice

Posting it for a friend, no affiliation

Nice host deal: free server of your choice and $25 / mbps if you take over 20mbps.

I have a box there for about half a year, great uptime, support and everything.

20-25/Mbps is good pricing for any provider that does not A. severally oversell their network. and/or B. has a quality network that performs.

Like all things in life. You get what you pay for.

I want this server
http://shop.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP..._US-SunCatalog
Want the Config 3 with 72 CPUs and 288 GB RAM.

If he can have that one, I will gladly get 1 GB of his bandwidth.

I would also accept a Cray XT5 http://www.cray.com/products/xt5/index.html , but then I want a discount on the bandwidth because it's not a high performance machine.

That pricing is a joke right? That's ridiculously overpriced, any host here would be able to undercut that by at least 50%.

Bullshit i havent had single downtime in nearly 12 months and i pay around $8mbps. $25mbps is a good price for people who dont know any better, just like some web design companies charge there clients $10k to create their 5 page template website and $100/month to host it and get away with it.

Anyone who knows better would not pay $20-$25 its not about you get what you pay for, thats not even close to the industry norm.

I just thought I'd say that unless you're a single hop from a border router, that's a little high.

I know several well respected hosting company that charge 20+/Mbps on commits like this. Sure commit to higher levels maybe get 15ish and see a 25 on overage.

Maybe some companies charge 25/Mbps because they roll in managed services and other goodies in with it.

Sure 8/mbps is great if you only care about say US only traffic but if your going to go to UE your 8/Mbps bandwidth is going to suffer.

Cogent is great if you plan to stick in the US. Along with HE. other than that sure maybe savvis is ok they are little bit higher but your not going to find level3/at&t/sprint/abovenet or anyother tier1's for that pricing. Unless its oversold by alot.

My traffic is worldwide no problems at all i really think your looking in the wrong places.

Anyway i pay around $2000 for 250mbps, if i host at $25 im looking at $6250, i have zero service problems so as you say "you get what you pay for", so by paying more than 3x what i currently pay what more do i get? Free roam of the bosses wife?

Different strokes for different folks. Not sure how much you know about tier1 networks and their routing and coverage but cogent has not so great coverage in EU, china/japan forget about it and HE.. is worse in EU than cogent is. Not knowing who your current provider is but if they are giving you something that low i'm sure if you had some better blends you would see improved speeds world wide.

I am in the EU and have no problems with any of my sites speeds or any sites i know that use similar hosts, im not even sure it is cognet but even if it is i see no performance loss and get no complaints. And really who cares about china/japan?

Ok EU, if you know anything about the EU market you would be well aware that EU carriers peer with each other. Peering = Free most of the time between carriers because they treat it like one big giant network. Now the problem is going back across the US where certian companies might have great peering inside EU but only a couple gbps to various tier1 providers that go back across to the US. There are a few good EU companies that do hosting/colocation within EU with good prices cheap too but they do suffer US bound. Ovh.com in particular comes to mind. Which you can see on ovh.net peering and some transit with global crossing which can be sub 10/Mbps as well. teleglobe is great but a little more.

But just an example say your still limited to 2 real transit carriers the rest is peering. People who pay more for Mbps get more tier1 carriers than said other company with fewer.
