I drink 4 gallons of water a DAY, abnormal?
am i fucked or what? and no i dont eat alot of salty food.. even 7 years ago in the marines i needed to drink water every 20 minutes or else i'd get dehydrated, headache, pee darker colors, cringe at bright lights... now, no matter how active i am, or what i eat... i need to drink 4 gallons of water a day... sucks.. everywhere i go, i have a bottle of water in my hand

I believe it is actually dangerous to drink that much water. The lady who died on the radio show only drank 2 gallons.
Ingesting more water than you need can increase your total blood volume. And since your blood volume exists within a closed system - your blood circulatory system - needlessly increasing your blood volume on a regular basis puts unnecessary burden on your heart and blood vessels. Your kidneys must work overtime to filter excess water out of your blood circulatory system. Your kidneys are not the equivalent of a pair of plumbing pipes whereby the more water you flush through your kidneys, the cleaner they become; rather, the filtration system that exists in your kidneys is composed in part by a series of specialized capillary beds called glomeruli. Your glomeruli can get damaged by unnecessary wear and tear over time, and drowning your system with large amounts of water is one of many potential causes of said damage. |

holy crap, I force myself to drink about 1 - 1.5 gallons and it's hard, I too get that dehydrated feeling if I don't, but I can't imagine where 4 gallons could fit lol.

b4 i got out of the Marines i went to the doc and told them wassup and they said they checked everything and im fine.... sounds like something a run of the mill doc wouldnt understand...

4 gallons that's like 15 litres. You mean you drink 15 KG of water per day? Even if your body consumes alot of water you still have to piss like 10+ of them out every day in that case.

That's a seriously abnormal condition and consuming that much water can have potentially serious side effects, at least in some people. Even if you were a 350 pound athlete who worked out in the hot sun or trained half the day that wouldn't be normal. Go get checked out by a doctor just in case.

I'm the opposite - I can go a day or two w/o drinking anything at all. Usually the only time I drink anything is to wash food down! I was sick and couldn't eat or drink for 4 days and still didn't get dehydrated. Very few times have I ever been "thirsty". I'll walk on the treadmill for an hour, sweat like a pig and not be thirsty. My Dad is like you - always drinking water and I think I freak him out

I would think that much water would suck the nutrients out of your body. However, I remember a story about a boy that would eat salt plain. Loads of it. Doctors said it was dangerously high amounts of salt. They restricted his intake and he died shortly after. Might be one of those myths or something, not sure if it's true. Any one else know?
