Critique mainstream site
Here's my first draft of a mainstream site.
Any tips or changes you think I should make before I start the whole adwords campaign? www.mechanicsunlimited.com It's a question and answer site for mechanical questions. I'm having Fletch make me an android app for it too.

Not too sure about the concept.
I doubt there are many questions that are not already answered somewhere on the internet - for free. I see the payment includes a month of free questions but I guess you could get the same on some specific internet forums. Reddit for example will have highly qualified people rushing to answer questions and give help. How much advice can one give via email without seeing the problem first hand, especially being described by someone who has no idea of the subject matter? What are Professional Mechanics? What are the qualifications they have? Does not say. Interesting concept though, if maybe applied in a different way. EDIT: You may get people to pay for a fast answer if you give a guaranteed turnaround time for their question. Response within 1 hour or your money back or something. |

I've seen a LOT of sites like this in my time, and no matter what anyone says, people will pay for answers because they believe if they pay, somehow its going to work better then asking on a forum.
Your missing a few key elements to this. I'll give you a quick overview, but if you want my help, please contact me... info in siggy ![]() You need to build trust with the user, there is none there. "Professional?" Add in some mechanics certification images and best yet, add a video of a mechanic talking. "show" the person who they will be working with. Second, what kind of mechanical questions can I ask? Is this someone that can help me fix my HVAC or someone that is going to help me take the steering wheel off my jet fighter? There are a lot of mechanics, if you are targeting the automotive industry, notate that. Lastly, before you begin an AdWords campaign, you need to set your site up to convert better. Right now, you only going to get maybe 2% of the population, what about the other 98%? Just going to say "forgot them!" There is where my expertise comes into play, but I don't want to type out 20 pages of text if your not interested. Also, with AdWords, make sure you know your ROI figures. If your net revenue is $14.95 and with a 2% (probably a bit high to be honest) conversion rate, you can't really spend more than $.30 CPC as it does not appear that most people will renew each month. Like I said, if you need any help, feel free to reach out to me

Thanks for your input.
I have for 4 years worked for a company that does exactly what I"m trying to do. I am one of the people answering the questions. And I make about 60k a year doing so. So I know the money is there I just am unskilled on the other side of the coin. I'll work on getting more personal connection and more details of what I"m trying to sell.

![]() You only have about 4 to 6 seconds to inform the customer what it is you are trying to do, so make sure that is right in their face to help keep them to say on the site and convert. Probably wouldn't hurt to allow someone to sign up for a "free" question, this way you can market to them to get them to pay

I like the idea a lot as I had to deal with a car the past week and I found an answer on just answers. There is a market for this. Hit me up if you need links for it.
