finally watched inception, is the freudian construct still used in psychology/psychoanalysis?

seems to me the science would of come up with a better model.

Take your skinny ass back to school and ask the psych professor. You should also be able to sling some gluten free foods and find sexual partners.

Freudian psychoanalysis = probably the most debunked body of "science" ever

Makes for great literature though. Also, applying it to art history/art criticism makes the subject more lively and entertaining (although of little academic value).

I seriously phrased it all wrong man, that's why I made the second post.

I meant:

Learning is exciting and the youthful energy found in college can be very fun.

Meeting real life people that appreciate your unique products can only be beneficial for you as a business owner because of the detailed real feedback.

I assumed you were single so new sexual partners is good.

It's only role in modern psychiatry and psychology is as a history lesson in the evolution of those disciplines. It was pure theory based on slanted observations of a tiny unrepresentative sample. Very little statistical corroboration or experimentation to prove its premises. That's why it fell so fast. It's cultural legacy can still be felt even now--phrases like "anal retentive" "you're projecting again" or "an Oedipus complex" still surface from time to time. But as a "science" it has gone tits up a long time ago. Didn't even need French post-structuralists like Foucault ("Madness and Civilization" / "Discipline and Punish") to knock the Freudian house of cards down--it was already collapsing of its own weight.

appreciated. any thoughts on the unconcious and the conscious mind like what the film delves into......i can't find what the modern day replacements are for freudian concepts such as those. i was more than a little surprised that the movie relied so much on his view and catholic concepts like guilt.

From my layman's understanding of current psychological theories, they are moving towards CHEMICAL basis for perception and thought processes. As scientists understand key chemicals like serotonin better, the whole complex of feelings and emotions move further away from "tell me about your childhood" to genetic predisposition/brain chemical levels, etc.

The movie probably relied heavily on Freudian constructs because Freudian theories are ENTERTAINING--hence V_Rocks reference above to one of Freud's most notable/controversial/laughable theories: The Oedipus Complex -- men want to fuck their moms and kill their dads. Makes for great (but incorrect) art criticism and literary criticism but makes for lousy science. Freud didn't know that his own cultural bias seeped into this work and that he based his theory on a very small, unrepresentative sample nor did he control for other variables/causes.

i can see that. interesting article here-

Quote:
Conscious. Subconscious. Unconscious. Three words we all know, thanks to Sigmund Freud, who first used them to posit a model of the human mind. A "topographical" model.
n this article, we will be discussing our own take on Freud's topographical model. Why? Because we believe this model is still the most accurate model of the human mind, albeit, with one major omission.
http://theemergencesite.com/Theory/C...iousness-2.htm

i was just messin back with v_rocks.

Reality is a serotonin induced hallucination.

this graphic would explain why the 4ths dream state was on the ocean, perhaps each dream state also took you further back in evolution?
