GFY, you gotta read this! It's kinda long, but this shit is too crazy to make up.

Friday evening marked the close to one of the worst days I've had in quite a while. I had movers in my apartment taking boxes, etc, out to the truck, and I'm in the back typing away on the boards. My cameraman had shown to see if I needed a hand, and because it was just me and the movers, I asked him to just hang out til they left.

He agreed, and set up his MacBook Pro in my living room, so he could see everything the movers were doing, just to keep them kinda in his line of site. The front door was open, so he could see anyone walking in front of my door, too. This went on for a few hours, all without incident.

As the movers were finishing up the last few loads, I called the cameraman back to where I was (about twenty feet away) to look at one of the threads I'd found. He sees it, smirks at the contents, and turns back to the living room...the chair he was sitting in...the night table he rigged as a work station...mouse pad...power cord...even two hard drives FILLED with content...but NO LAPTOP. Folks, we're talking seconds here. Someone had walked right into my apartment, and snatched his fucking nearly brand new laptop right off the fucking night table.

Enter SHAI. officially tripping the FUCK out.

Luckily, cameraman did not find him. My apartment building is like the movie Labyrinth, with eight different exits leading either into the courtyard or into the street. And hey, let's face it, you ain't catchin' no crackhead, right?

He's out there talking to the cops down on the street, almost gets arrested by two bitch-ass wanna be tough guy cops, but luckily the first officer on scene made those two leave when he saw the situation escalating.

I'm in the apartment, and I'm in disbelief. Then I look up...standing there, with absolute TERROR in his eyes, is a kid, about 18, with the laptop in his hands, wrapped in a newspaper. We locked eyes for a second, he slowly put the computer down at my door, and took off like a bat out of hell. I secured the laptop and hauled my own ass downstairs, and found my cameraman still with the cop, and shouted a quick description, sending the cop bolting around the block.

Didn't ever find the kid, but everyone involved believes pretty strongly that the assholes that wouldn't open the door at the end of my hall knew what was going on, had realized very early on that they had stolen the WRONG FUCKING LAPTOP, led the cameraman outside(where they knew the cops would be), leaving the one who actually swiped it the precious few seconds to run back down the hall to my door, and set it there ANONYMOUSLY. They didn't think I would be sitting there, staring out the door. Dumb luck.

So in 45 minutes, he got robbed, almost got arrested, got the laptop back, and I finished moving my stuff out of my apartment.

p.s. The only thing he didn't recover was the wireless mouse transmitter that was plugged into the MAC. So I went right to BestBuy and bought him a brand new one. It was the least I could do.
