I never could understand why people think they can shut a forum like this down. The forum posts links to file download sites like Rapidshare, Depositfiles, Megaupload, etc., and don't actually host any content, so legally or otherwise you don't have much of a leg to stand on.

If your content is posted there you need to contact Rapidshare or whatever other site it is hosted on and ask them to remove it. They are actually pretty good about it and will remove copyrighted content. That's not to say problem solved, but it is the only real recourse you have other than trying to cut off their funding.

Speaking of which, I thought AVN Ads said they were no longer allowing advertising on these sites...

Hopefully in the future that sort of off-site loophole will be closed. If you look at that forum in the section where they state what you're not allowed to post, they pretty much just say post anything that isn't underage, rather than don't post these site's content.

Also them giving specific instruction on how to rip movies, make thumb previews of ripped movies, how to host the content and where, shows they know exactly what they are doing and that they know that they're skirting the laws. The entire site is based around the intent to traded stolen content with the site owners being 100% behind it.

And if AVN says they don't allow those kinds of sites then their ads should be pulled.

I seem to remember a thread where a bunch of people were giving the AVN rep shit for putting ads on torrent sites, and the rep saying that it was basically Adbrite's fault and they didn't know they were advertising there. Aren't they no longer affiliated with Adbrite, or did they kiss and make up?

As for the loophole closing, I'd love to see it, but I seriously doubt it will happen. I won't get into it too much, but there are sites out there that tell you step by step how to do all kinds of illegal shit, and get away with it under the "For Educational Purposes Only" umbrella...

Yea I've seen the "Educational" sites. How far can the site go before it is considered facilitating the illegal activity? Like if an "educational" site not only gives instruction, but gives links to places to get materials for the illegal activities and has an active discussion forum where people reminisce on their exploits. What's the limit?

This is why threads like this ARE useful and should be encouraged, not criticized. The sponsors that advertise on thieving sites should be brought up and publicly questioned and not left alone about these things.

Why won't they lose any business? If the rest of us that do have some ethics refuse to deal with any sponsors or people that deal with those sponsors that are directly funding the torrent and theft-forums it would make a difference.

You are probably correct on points 1 and 2, but giving up completely can't be the answer. Exposing those that deal and fund the theft and then boycotting them is the right thing to do.

I understand what you are saying, but we should have a responsibility amongst ourselves in this industry to not deal with anyone that deals with the owners of these companies. They may not go away, but we should still not deal with them, so keeping the industry aware of the people involved in the theft industries should be a continuing effort.

they are hosted in the u.s.a., and the admin himself posts stolen content and links, how are these guys still in operation?

there are rapidshare links from major sponsors that are nearly a year old and still working fine, is it difficult to get rapidshare to pull stolen content? This board is one of the biggest and getting well indexed, so it should be a priority for daily monitoring I would think, unless rapidshare isn't cooperating?

if the people who spread the software make a living advertising aff then some would argue they are.

I noticed on one of the boards that there were a bunch of them complaining about the big "problem" of people getting their precious stolen content removed from Rapidshare, and they are all stressed about it.

Noticed a guy that says he is the admin from pornbb, posting on a mainstream board about how the adult industry shouldn't be "crying" about the file "sharing" boards because "the adult business is making more money than ever"

In other threads he was also mentioning that his problems with finding hosting was getting easier with more hosts available that didn't have a problem with his kind of content

Rapidshare will remove everything you have copyright to as long as you have the link. I hit them with a C&D earlier this year. Luckily, there were not a lot of our videos on there I had to track down links to.

Good tip, this will make a big difference.

These forums are getting way too much search engine indexing and are teaching surfers to keep looking when they aren't getting stolen content for free.

Maybe we can't get them all, but the main ones that are indexed well stick out like sore thumbs and they should be made to have a hard time keeping stolen content links valid.

One of these idiots was bragging about his 4MB upload speed and he'd never stop posting.
