Every time someone like Twisty's or Dean post glamour shots on this board someone has to jump in and say "that's not good photography, it's good Photoshop" or some such bullshit.

You guys are fucking idiots. All commercial photography is retouched. All magazine covers, billboards, movie posters, box covers, etc etc etc. They are all Photoshopped guys. This is even more so true with glamour photography. And you know what, it's been this way since long before Adobe Photoshop was created. Black and white printers burn and dodge in the darkroom. Then they crop and pain out the blemishes etc. Color printers airbrushed and used chemicals to color tint or correct. Photoshop is simply a newer tool. Ansel Adams pictures were modified by the chemicals to build contrast.

In the old (film) days Playboy would take 2 days to shoot one centerfold on 8x10 film. They had amazing lighting, amazing makeup artists, and world class photographers. They still airbrushed the image to blend the skin tones.

Photoshop is simply a new post production tool. Sometimes it is overused, but usually it needs to be used. I think in porn girls it is not used enough. These girls are not exactly super models.

There is a lot more porn that is under Photoshopped than over Photoshopped

While I agree that some (large) content companies way over retouch their sets, don't confuse good retouched images with bad photography covered up.

Coming from the days when they ( i ) used 10x8 and even 16x20 field cameras i know what went into shooting/airbrushing for high quality mags and im still of the opinion that digital is a long way from that quality yet ! ( nothing to do with # of pixels )

I think what people are saying is that quite a few shots shown are over retouched, people tend to use a technique that smoothes out far too much detail giving a look of plastic to the models skin. Photoshop is available to all and as such you see some excellent work but also a lot of crap where people over do the effect or dont know the correct way to re touch images to leave the skin texture intact

THese same methods are applied by ALL "Glam" photographers, every single fucking one use imaging techniques that drive a style and look that each thrive on. These secrets are held closely to the chest, no photo you see that is glam and is perfect looking are not retouched. Every Pro Photographer does post work end of story.

I know and I agree with that but I am responding to people who are confusing good quality photography that is retouched well, and bad photography that is made to (attempted to) look better by painting over it.

The "real magic" happens all through the photographic process. From picking out the location and the wardrobe to hair/makeup, model rapport, lighting, exposure, composition, posing and of course post production. It takes years to figure all this shit out and fine tune those skills and even then..there's always room for improvement. No photographer can shoot images that please everybody. There will always be someone who doesn't like the work for one reason or the other. The best a photographer can do is try to please himself and hopefully some others will be pleased as well

One thing we all have to remember is that this is GFY and there are folks here who live their life to start shit with others. We have stalkers, thieves, scammers and every other kind of low-life scum you can think of surfing this board so to have a few folks here & there complain about a picture...well, that means nothing to me. I'm happy with what I do, my clients are happy and their members are happy. That my friend is all that matters

agree with you totally, sometimes I feel sorry for the models when somebody posts up pictures with a big pimple left in, stuff like that and even just fixing up contrasts and levels should be basic

So True. And an experienced photographer knows what photo tools he has at his disposal for post production. It allows us to pick some of out battles for after the shoot, and just concentrate on getting the good image on set.

I think the many of people here struggle to even be webmasters, let alone know anything about photography. They know nothing about production yet will blast pros who do. The same as most of them will flame a pretty girl and say she is ugly when in fact most of these same guys are overweight turds who couldn't have that girl of they tried. You can see countless posts of a stunning girl and then some ass comes and and says her wrists are too big for his tastes or that he's "seen better."

It's the power of the internet. You get to pretend you are someone and that you know something, even if you don't. This is the difference between guys who make money in this business and guys who don't.

For all of those who blast on pretty girls or good photos, I'd like to see what they have that is better. Post your pics, lets see your flawless girls, perfect shots and money making websites. Oh yea, I forgot, you don't have any.

I photoshop shit for my blogs and my surfers prefer it... When I don't photoshop it = no votes and no page views.. WHen I do it equals votes through the roof and many sales...

One thing that really ticks me off is that I have to photoshop most shit because many programs (occash comes to mind) release some pretty ridiculous, grainy, washed out, dark photos for us to use... And video stills... don't even get me started...

I can not recall an image posted by Dean that was overdone with photoshop. Seems he knows what the fuck he is doing and it just adds to everything. I am one who thinks photoshop can be a useful tool and should be used like makeup. On other side though, we all can think of some people who post images that way overdo the photoshop work and it comes off just as bad as if the model way overused her makeup.

I can go both ways on this issue. I do think with digital photography a good 20% of the process is how you treat that digital image in photoshop (adjusting, lightly retouching, etc) But I do feel that some people get a little too "Filter happy" and overdue it to a point where it seems a bit too perfect and becomes a distraction. For most of the content I deal with I try to keep it in it's most natural state. But color adjustment is key on any digital photo straight from the camera...

I totally agree. I think that once the retouching is the first thing you notice, then you have gone too far. Its like bad CG in movies. It takes you out of the fantasy. I do a lot of retouching in my images to a point where no-one really can tell, but the image is much better.

I also have learned in 13 years of this industry and these boards..

it's a lot easier to be critical of someone and their work from behind a keyboard than face to face.

Her face color is sampled from her face. I think it could look a little more pink, but no more than 3% red added. I am working off a Pantone color calibrated monitor, so if may likely look different to you. Lets see some of your photoshop work

It's definitely an improvement on the original, I think the finish is overall a bit too smooth, but who's really looking at the skin texture when in the full view there would be boobies hangin' out? :P

The real blazer for me is her jawline, it looks too brown too me, just by a hair. I dunno. Still, kudos, she's very pretty, and the color shift and splotch smoothing you did on her neck and chest area is wonderful.

As for samples of my stuff, that'll just have to wait until I've made the 30 post minimum.
