Me too. I always carry an extra battery. They claim an extra 3 hours of use on the new battery but even if that's true there are occasions when I would kill the battery. Without being able to swap batteries I would be up shit creek with a turd for a paddle.

I won't buy something that expensive that requires you to send it in to have the battery replaced. Batteries go bad. That's an unfortunate fact of life. They need to take that into consideration when they design this shit.

I actually think it's a smart move. It's obvious "they" have come to the conclusion a long time ago that we will buy anything they show us on the tv.

Take the light bulb for example. That was made to last forever until some smarty pants came along and decided you need to buy one every week ...

God Bless us ALL !

Someone needs to put out a good quality USB battery.

I know they have been working on the betavoltic battery.

Is this the new one they've been advertising as being very "green"? That seems massively anti-green.. Lets spend gas to ship a brick back to get a new battery installed... hmm..

I've replaced the batter in my Dell E1705 twice now...

Haven't you heard? This non removable battery is a "feature" because it gives you hours more on a single charge!

Dumbass apple sheeple... it pisses me off that ipods and iphones don't make it easier to replace batteries but a LAPTOP? WTF

I guess now you idiots will simply have to buy 2 of those laptops for redundancy.

The battery lasts 3 times longer than a normal battery (1000 charges) which could mean up to 3 year life span. It also lasts up to 8 hours per charge.

They have an exchange program, bring in it and they'll swap in a new one for you.

I'm not advocating that it's a great idea, but it's not as bad as I originally thought when I heard the news. I can't remember the last time I had a laptop for 3 years. ;)

Up to 8 hours. You won't get 8 hours out of it...EVER.

Bring it in? Bring it in where? The nearest Mac store is a full days drive from here. Can't I just have a laptop with a battery that *I* can change out?

Like most Apple hardware products, the first version will come with a few bugs. When all the bugs are fixed, it will be just like the Iphone, they'll probably have a free replacement program for the battery with free shipping included. Since it lasts 3 times as long as normal battery, I can see this new battery lasting 5 years which will likely outlast the laptop as a whole.

i am not that impressed - i have the 1920x1280 screen already, 4 GB RAM and the 2,6 GHZ CPU. so it won't be an improvement besides the battery and a slightly bigger HDD (i am using only 60 GB of my 250 GB drive anyways). this makes me feel comfortable keeping mine for the next 2 years

Well they can't please everyone with the no removable battery, but seriously I'm never far away from a power point or an in car charger, I've never removed the battery an my mac book pro as yet.
I would love to test this new one out and see how it performs in my environment before i knock it.

the battery's in the macbook pro's usually last about 500 cycles according to Apple. that's just about 2 years. i just gave my last gen macbook pro (exactly 2 years old) to my little sister and the battery is still ticking (at 70% health) at 540 cycles.

the battery's in the new macbook pro 17" will last through about 1,000 cycles according to Apple.
