Tech problem . . . . any ideas?

Okay, this is pretty weird, hopefully someone will have a suggestion.

Last night, for some reason, our billing and ticket system stopped recognizing my account. I put in the user/pass and it just refreshes the page. No error or anything, just goes back to the login page.

GFY would go to the mofo cash FPA and when I click continue, it just refreshes to the same FPA.

goodgirl is able to access the system with my login, so I know it isn't a matter of an incorrect login. She attempted resetting my password and after a few attempts it started working again. Coincidentally, GFY started working for me again. At one point I was logging in to GFY, it acknowledged me, but then immediately refreshed to me being a guest.

I tried restoring my system to a week ago . . . no help.
The problem seems to happen in FF and IE.
At one point my Verizon wireless was acting like it did not recognize me, and would fail updates, but that has seemed to resolve itself for now.

I updated and ran AVG. The first time it ran a couple Trojans were found and removed. Subsequent runs found no errors.

I am afraid to turn off or reboot my laptop for fear it will stop working again. Other sites, emails, ICQ all seem to work fine as far as remembering my user/pass.

All of my bookmarks that have logins are working except for the two sites I use the most. I went ahead and upgraded my FF, just in case. Oh yeah, my NoScript seemed to turn itself off and my Google toolbar disappeared.

I am at a loss. Anyone have any ideas?

BD - I suggest a clean install. I am using "acronis" - I really recommend it. Whenever my comp fucks up it takes like 20 mins to restore it. Though I of course have to backup all files first..

Yeah, I am on the road right now, so not exactly something I can do easily . . . but I guess I can go but a backup drive if push comes to shove.

I wonder if my wireless card is what is causing the problem . . . although I don't know why it would pick and choose what sites to mess with me.

sounds to me like 'corrupted code/script' in your system... seems as if 'cookies' aren't being stored/utilized etc... can you reinstall firefox? unistall in your control panel, go to the registry and dump the fire fox there as well. the thing is find your 'bookmarks' and save that folder first. not sure it will work but I would try it myself

Just be sure you don't backup the trojans also!

Yeah, was thinking it might be a cookie session issue, perhaps related to my wireless connection. Just deleted all cookies for the two sites involved and restarted . . . seems to have worked . . . for now.

Keeping fingers crossed.

Whenever you find trojans on your system nowadays, expect havoc to be had.

Even when you remove them, they can leave trace programs that act as reinstallers and/or generally malicious spyware.

What kind of trojan are we talking about? Check sarc.com's free threat explorer http://www.symantec.com/norton/secur...rer/search.jsp and find out exactly what your system had.

If it was a keylogger, then change all passwords on another secure system, wipe and reload. Then again, it may have been something simple like a redirect script.

I would dare say that 70% of my company's service calls at the end of December were Virus/Malware related. That's significant.

Everyone needs to beef up their antivirus/antispyware/antimalware suites AND be careful of what you click on, open up or visit, regardless of the trust level.

Clear your cache ( cookies, offline content, ssl content ) , restore defaults on browser(s), flush dns.

Try after that.

Can you switch your DNS?

http://www.opendns.com/

Should be an easy walk through to switching it. Had a sort of similar issue awhile back and that fixed it.

Are you using Norton? I used to have customers who couldn't long into their scripts when Norton was running. It was an intermittent error which made it really hard to pinpoint.

My rule of thumb has always been once you find a trojan... do a clean wipe.

If something was able to invade in past security, you never know what could be left over.

Do a fresh system install... and scan the shit out of your backups before you restore anything back in.
