In case you forgot or you've never seen it: Don't talk to cops (without a lawyer)

I'm taking this from another forum. Each video is about 30minutes long. very interesting!

All too often cops make it sound as though a person is 'probably' guilty simply because they're "refusing to cooperate with police".

Implying that if you refuse to cooperate - you MUST be hiding your guilt.

On shows like Law & Order - whenever cops say, "He's lawyer'd up" - it always the bad guy. Rarely do you see someone who's innocent on the show "lawyering up" simply because he wants proper legal representation.

As an officer of the court myself - I have a healthy respect for cops and the law in general. But that said...I've also witnessed my share of cops who don't always play by the rules and sometimes get somewhat 'creative' with their interpretation of the facts.

So the cop says, when speeding, to not tell the cop how fast you think you are going.

But he didn't say what you should say..

Do you just not respond at all?

It's really not easy to not talk to the police because like the cop said when they bring you in they will and can hold you for as long as they want.

As far as speeding tickets go..im sure they are less critical, just dont admit guilt (say "no" when asked if you know how fast you are going), and don't consent to any searches

Actually you are far more likely to get out of a speeding ticket if you are honest. Most cops absolutely hate it when they ask if you know why they pulled you over and you give them the "I have no idea" bullshit.

I got pulled over a few months ago by a State Trooper as I was coming off I-70 and I rolled through a stop sign. I didn't see him in the empty lot off the highway, and sure enough he got behind me and pulled me over. When he asked if I knew why he pulled me over, I told him I was a moron and came to a rolling stop at the stop sign. After checking my license and insurance he gave them back without ticketing me, and just told me to mind the stop sign next time. I guarantee if I gave him the "What seems to be the problem officer?" bullshit I would've received a ticket.

Don't get me wrong, in most cases you don't have to and shouldn't talk to the cops, but for something minor like a speeding ticket honesty is definitely the best policy...

if you do not know how fast you were going, then you must not have been paying attention and were probably speeding. Why else would the cop pull YOU over? Guilty.

Just tell the cop that you prefer to remain silent and thank him in advance for respecting your rights.

We're taught to use the word "approximately" when testifying in court. It allows for interpretive latitude.

Try the same term when asked by a cop how fast you think you were going. That way you appear to be answering his question...yet technically you're not committing to an exact/guilty answer.

My car was directed to a random roadside breath test last night.

As I wound down my window the rookie officer asked "Good evening sir, how's it going?"

I replied "Good thanks"
