Twitter promotions: Is Retweeting useless?

Here's a great overview of the debate: http://openpresswire.com/twitter/ret...edia-citizens/

My commentary: If Twitter were a forum, I'd agree with the thesis that Retweeting is stupid. A Retweet would be like a 1 smiley emoticon response at a forum. However, Twitter is NOT a forum, it's a set of interconnected circles of influence. People in your circle might not be on the list of people you follow. If you retweet someone's update, you are effectively broadening their circle of influence. Very powerful stuff. Adapting Al Capone's voter awareness message--retweet early, retweet often.

Incidentally, Twitter changed their @ settings due to technical considerations.

Being RT'ed is great. Good for getting new completely organic (as opposed to "follow me, I follow you" type of autofollow) followers and extending the reach of your message.

I have a few mainstream niche accounts where most of my updates are RTs of others. This in turn means I've got a lot of people Retweeting my original posts when I do.

I just woke up to 300 new followers overnight.

Retweet or no-retweet, the whole twitter concept is retarded. Unless you plan on pounding endless shortened URL ads all over.

Yep. The great thing about "organic" followers is that they're on your list because of your content. Totally opt-in. Totally self-selecting. Great sales targets.
