Where to buy new and cheap domain names?
It seems like there are a couple of real domainers who hang out here, among other very well experienced and qualified people who does business online. Any tips for where to register new domains at the best prices? It also needs to come with free private registration (hidden whois records). Minimum registration could be 5-10, it really doesn't matter as I'm having around 50-60 new names on my list to register. A bulk registration tool would be appreciated, but not necessary.
And please, no suggestions for another one of those "Godaddy-in-disguise" reseller sites. I operate at least one myself, for client purposes. Best prices I've managed to find myself so far is a tie between netfirms * com, @ $6.99 per year and free protected whois records and 1and1 * com, also @ $6.99 per year and free protected whois records. There's no minimum number of domains required at these two registrars, you get the free whois record from a single domain purchase, most registrars will give it to you for free at a minimum purchase of 5 domains or more. So, back to my original question, any tips for how or where to find even lower prices? For those who prefer to register with Godaddy, try to search for "godaddy" at Google, you will usually be displayed the Godaddy Adsense ad, which will advertise .com domains at $6.99 plus ICANN fee of $.20, = $7.19. Click the ad, and you are taken to Godaddy.com and are able to purchase or renew your domains at Godaddy for $7.19. I know a lot of people have bad experiences with Godaddy, but that is not a topic for this thread, there are entire forums (Nodad**) dedicated to horror stories. Thanks! |

Most domainers use Moniker and Fabulous. I have accounts with both of them, also a 1&1 and namecheap account.
But I use Godaddy the most, sure you can find bad stories about godaddy...but godaddy is the largest register in the world...so you will have a higher percentage of complaints. They do have a bulk tool to register domains and if this is used you also get a free year of privacy I believe. (plus a nice discount) If you have a certain number of domains, you get a VIP rep to work with you. They also have .99 coupons. Not sure what your looking for in this thread, since you have a reseller website with godaddy. (you can offer the same as them) I thought about the reseller website myself, but when selling and buying domains most is done with godaddy and moniker...having a website like handballjims domains just does not make sense unless you can offer something different.

Not sure of the exact figure, but I usually have between 500-2000 domains...and have been with godaddy since 2000. When you log on you will see a link at the top that says VIP with the reps name. He is great to deal with and helped me get my domain back that I let expire by accident...and waved the redemption fee of $80 for me...here is his info:

$80 redemption fee?! are you kidding me!
go with namecheap, renewal/redemption fee is $8.81 only + free whois proxy service for the first year (less than a buck after the first year when you use the discount codes).

The best advice I can give you is to register the domains you like asap, those 50-60 names could be gone by now. godaddy alone a domain every second is registered. everytime I put off registering a domain for another time someone gets it...and I am pissed for a day or two.

Hey Adraco, Webair is an ICANN accredited registrar. We are registering domain names starting at $7.99 per year with FREE privacy protection. When transferring a domain name we also renew the domain name for another year at no additional cost. Hit me up if you have any questions as this is a great deal on domain names!

6.99 for .coms is below registrar cost. The price won't last and they will probably gouge you some where else to make up for it. You are better off paying about a buck more and getting a quality registrar.

Good domain offers
After doing some more research I found the following offers for new domain name registrations, just remember that ICANN rules forbids transfer of a newly registered domain for the first 60 days, so use those offers to register, set a calendar alarms 61 days ahead and then in two months transfer to your preferred domain registrar.
Some addresses appear to have some affiliation id included. Those are not mine, I found the links online and if someone here don't want to credit some unknown dude's account, feel free to experiment to edit those out. I didn't worry about it. Register * com - free, if you have a valid CC, you get one domain, one year, totally free. You just have to click the box asking if you have a small business. Price year two is $35, so remember to transfer away. register * com/promo/acquisitions_8772090537.rcmx?trkID=SEMJ78Vw4W Yahoo * com, $1.99 Yahoo Small business will give you one address for one year for only $1.99. One per Yahoo account, and only new customers, so you cannot have had an address with them before. Also note that price year 2 is 9.95, so remember to transfer away. smallbusiness.yahoo * com/domains/?p=BESTDEAL&s_affiliate=dm_acq_dmlinks_20081101&AI D=10569672&PID=2394160&SID=google_yahoo_domain_spe cial Netfirms * com, $5.95 with free private registration included Netfirms have an offer which seems semi-permanent, you can register 5 domains, with free private registration, for the very attractive price $5.95 per domain and year. No bulk tool, but once your first name is entered and searched for, you just scroll down a bit and there have the ability to enter your next domain name, and then repeat the process. Renewal is $9.95 so also here, remember to transfer away. After purchase, you need to go into the control panel and for each domain choose to ENABLE domain privacy by hand, it is not on by default. netfirms * com/domain-names/domain-overview.php Godaddy * com, $6.99, with possible free private registration The place where only fools pay the listed price, everyone else do a quick Google search as there are discount codes for almost everything. Register a minimum of five domains with the bulk tool and you can add free private registration at check out. godaddy * com/gdshop/compare/gdcompare_domain.asp?isc=goaz4004o Then of course a lot of hosting companies offer free domains in combination with a hosting package but I decided to leave those out, as it would just complicate the matter. Anyways, I'm sure there are others which I have completely missed, I didn't have all day but feel that I have given it a thourough enough research to feel confident enough to post it here. So if it is any help to anyone, be my guest. |

I've been thinking about that, what are the registrar costs? Seems to be around $6-7 considering how many sell around say $7. But I never did look into it.

I'm not a better person than to the extent that I could on occasions be wrong. In this case on wheter or not a domain search it's public record. I did read it at one of the many domain name registrars that I went over today in my hunt for low prices, as I remember it one that I took as trustworthy or I wouldn't have repeated it in here. However, it sounds very reasonable as you lay it out so that could very well be the case too, just sorry I don't have my source on it - only my own memory - for what it's worth. It could most probably be looked into, I mean it can't be a secret wheter or not it's public record. You wouldn't want to give away your good domains while you really just try out different ideas. Thanks for input HandballJim
