Everyone Still Really Excited About The Big Tube Sites?

Finally ready to admit that they are killing your sales, or are you sticking to the psychotic "adapt or die" mantra?

This month will probably be my best sales month this year, only topped by 1 or maybe 2 months last year. So over the last 1,5 years I have seen no drop in sales because of these tube sites.

The economy has probably killed as much business as tube sites. Need to pay the mortgage and buy food before paying for something to whack it to.

Since 1998 I've kinda been sticking to a "Stay the course" mantra. TGP's, MGP's, TGP2, AVS', freesites, blogs, and tube sites all get assimilated into - and modified to fit - my site mix.

There hasn't been any one style of site that's had much negative influence on what I do. Whether a competitor's site has thousands of galleries or thousands of low-quality 20 minute videos, I've never come across anything that's made me want to redevelop my sites.

I'm not a big "player" in this biz, but my initial sales are as good as they've ever been. Rebills (I prefer the revshare model) have been taking a beating recently, though.

A lot of the tube sites seem to have clips of the same guys fucking the same girls over and over again. While the promise of !!!FREE PORN!!! was initially attractive, the low quality, repetitive clips turned me off the tubes pretty quick.

Bah, tube sites have done all the damage they can do. Doesn't matter to me if 5 million more open up tomorrow.

No need to worry about it anymore.

Until this industry faces the question of why customers prefer Tubes to paysites it will continue to suffer. And please don't fool yourself with "It's free." The people viewing Tubes are buying, or the Tubes would close.

But an industry that uses that excuse shows how few ideas it has to put the situation right. The first thing to realise is;

SURFERS ON TUBES SPEND MONEY.

Now work from there to figure out how we can get them to spend money on paysites. How we change to win the spenders back. Once we do that most illegal Porn Tubes will disappear.

It's the music industry all over...

Most paysites suck, tubes suck less so the surfer goes to the tubes.
Paysites need to be alot easier to get access to and much much more user friendly.

Good post.

Here are a few reasons that Tubes suck less than paysites. IMO

Size.
Selection.
Variation.
Ease of use in that you use it when you like and not given time limits.

We built sites to pay, impress and attract affiliates to promote and afford to pay the for marketing. Tubes were mostly built to get free traffic by satisfying the surfer enough to keep him coming back. We can see who got it right.

Now how do we change it to win back the spenders. Can't be a shortage of money, we charge to view.

A few thoughts...

I tend to think surfers are flocking to the tube sites over paysites for (not limited to) a variety of reasons.

Paying customers have been burned for years on shitty paysites that promise and don't deliver. Poor quality content, cookie-cutter sites, lousy service, credit card issues. With tube sites, the surfer doesn't run the risk of spending his/her money and not getting what they hoped for.

Then there are those who don't have to justify or explain charges on the CC statements each month to the wife/girlfriend when they spend all their time on free tube sites.

How do we change it to win them back?

It won't be overnight. The paysite format must collectively and consistently improve and demonstrate a new commitment to quality and trustworthiness over a sustained period of time. Easy to say...extremely difficult to do - given the proliferation of fly-by-night webmasters and site owners in the industry.

And the Tube and Dating sites that pay for the Tube sites are such great sites they don't ever disappoint the members?????

I agree with you about the mass of sites that don't deliver and have poor content. And been saying it for years. We still churn out sites and porn as if we are on a conveyor belt. The belief was get the traffic and it will work.

Unless we change the product and give the same respect we give to affiliates to members, the members will vote with their feet. They have the option.

We can always pray that the lousy dating and web cam sites will turn off members in the long run. Which is probably what this industry will do rather than look at WHY people prefer Tubes over paysites, fix the problems and win customers back.

I was talking "our" as in "the legal tube site niche" versus the "free site niche". Didnt even name the project you are talking about.

And since im managing both categories, i think i can ad to the conversation from experience.

Thanks though.

I was going to say something but its not worth it. This industry on so many levels is its own worst enemy. The problem is too many different things are put under the porn umbrella and most of them have no real vested interest in porn.

Its not a situation of "not making money" - it has everything to do with making more money.

Our revenues haven't been impact by tubes primarily because we only do still photography in a niche market.

However, that doesn't mean I'm deaf, dumb, blind and unsympathetic as to the impact the tube sites are having on the industry overall.

Only a naive moron would toss out superfluous observations and advocate shutting up about issues surrounding tube sites.

Very true. I have experience of tis industry on different levels and it went from being too easy to make money when few could do it to very hard to make money when anyone could do it.

The cake has not increased on par with the number of people wanting a slice. So most thought they could save money by cutting costs on the product. Which short term looked good and long term you can see where it got us.

Protect your content. Quit spending so much time trying to be a big time balla and send a DMCA every now and then.

Just wait until the tube sites figure out a way to financially reward uploaders like Netload, Hotfile etc. has.

BS regarding the economy if anything it should help your sales. 30 bucks a month for daily jerk off is cheap compared to going out on the town for dinner, movies, etc.
