Would you rather live in New York City or Miami?
I live in boston and want to move. I've visited both and I love both. NYC is interesting to me because there's always so much to do even late at night and I'm a night owl. Theres an energy in the city that I love.
But South Florida is so beautiful and tropical to me. The living is better because its larger and more spacious in Miami instead of living in an apartment the size of a sardine can in NYC. But I don't like driving everywhere, its fun to just walk around in NYC. Its good exercise too. anyways I was wondering if anyone has lived in either or both and what you think. If you could move to either new york city or Miami which one? |

Snowbirds have the best of both worlds. Miami in the winter ,and NYC in the summer.

Well, I love NYC, but I doubt I could live there. Have not been to Miami yet, but pretty sure I would not live there simply because of the weather.
If I was hiding from the cops and had to move to one of them, guess it would be NYC. |

I moved from New Jersey to South Florida eleven years ago. I don't miss going to New York City at all and I never wanted to live there. Miami is great, although I live in and prefer Broward County, near Miami.

You can get a little place in Manhattan for like $1,400/month. It'll be tiny but enough for a bed and a desk and a little kitchen table, and you'll be in the city.
vs getting a place in South Florida that's bigger for a lot lower cost |

I have lived in both, I just moved back to NYC last year from Miami. Miami is nice. NYC has a ton more shit to offer. Much more diversity. There is nothing like NYC.

If I had to choose, Miami. I saw a picture of Miami at night yesterday and it looked beautiful.
I like San Franscico. I love the weather here.

My two favorite cities are NYC and Miami.
Both for different reasons. NYC is fun for visiting, but after four or five days, I am ready to go home. I never feel that way in Miami. Although if I were moving to South Florida, I wouldn't live in Miami proper, but instead somewhere like Hallandale Beach, which is a few short minutes up A1A. Ft. Lauderdale is also great. Oh, and if moving to South Florida, you need to already have an income source. The economy there sucks right now. |

I looked at Miami, NYC and LA a few years ago but ended up in Rio. I felt Miami was the best package. You had the feel of a major city with the nightlife and energy without the price tag of the other two. I was thinking South Beach as you could still walk to lots of stuff depending on where you were. The timing is pretty good right now too as FL condos are half off.

I live in NYC and it feels like the capital of the world...plus you have 2,800 outdoor public one-wall Handball courts. You have a melting pot of cultures, some of the best restaurants in the world, sports teams that waste money getting the best players, 4 seasons. You can also venture to Long Island beaches, wealthy Westchester County, and skiing in upstate, NY. Just about anything you want or need you can find it in New York City. If you have an emergency the cops and fire department can be at your place in under 5 minutes. NYC is also pretty safe from natural disasters. A lot of people to meet if your single.
The drawback is it is expensive, no public bathrooms, sometimes you think your in peurto rico or dominican republic, a lot of cops to give you traffic tickets, you need to have a tolorance for stress. A lot of asshole drivers who will try and beat you to a red light. I visited Orange County, CA last year and would also consider living there one day when I get tired of NY. It would be a culture shock, but I have allergies and I catch colds fast...so a warm climate would be better for me in the future. If I had to pick a place to live out of the USA it would be Japan, my wife is Japanese and it is close to NYC type living....but with 99% Japanese. My background is Italian so I would miss NY Italian deli's and pizzerias. When I think of Miami I think about CSI and those cool condos by the water...and that beautiful warm ocean water. But it does not have any long term reason to live there. |

I have been to both places numerous times. NYC is way too congested for my tastes, and Miami is too hot and humid.

I love the beach, water, boating..all that good stuff so I'm gonna pick Miami. I don't like city life anyway and both NYC and Miami are plagued with crime and violence, so you're kinda fucked either way.
Plus, I hate snow, and NY definitely gets it's fair share of that nasty white shit.

Been to Miami 3 times and NYC 2 times. I'd defo love to live in Miami.. but for me I'm biased. My first time in Miami I didnt want to leave, I just got an amazing vibe from the place, I really wanted to live there. Second time was even stronger, hated leaving it. Third time I almost stayed but getting a Visa to live there would be very hard.
New York City is an amazing place too, I just think it would be annoying after a while tho, paying premiums for everything you buy. |
