Answer me this

How come human beings have evolved so rapidly while every other creature evolves much more slowly. We as humans went form spears to nukes in less then 500 years, my dog bites just like the dogs 10 million years ago. Maybe there is truth to the bible with man being created in the image of God. But there is a evil that comes with our gift of intelligance, suicide, drug abuse, and numbers of other things that I cant think of in my drunken state right at the moment. Serial killers are a good example no other creature kills for no reason at random, or how about homosexuality? I have never understund the defect in that, all other creatures mate naturally strictly for the purpose of giving birth to offspring and we got some humans trying to jump start a car with two positives. Drugs the whole entire reason why the chemicals in marijuana produce that effect is to prevent animals from eating it, its poision the animal know not to eat it, we are paying $200+ a oz. and smoking it. Our evolution has also caused harm to earth, with are increased needs for resources, the poision chemicals we create, there is no wonder why we have viruses aimed at the prevention of our reproduction, the earth is trying to kill us. We are the great evil, and I am grossly intoxicated

IMO humans are no different than any other animal. We eat, shit, fuck. We just have brains that can think. Most people use that ability to make life a lot more complicated than it really is.

With as fast as technology as getting, and as radical as groups like the muslims are getting, I don't know if humans will go more than another hundred years without destorying themself.

You make one gigantic assumption, and that being that we are the epitome, the final perfect product of evolution.

Our sole purpose is to procreate. An organism like every other organism. Keep the specie alive, fill your niche.

Once you fill your niche successfully, there is no need for any drastic change (like dogs slowly evolving into bipeds). There is no need to do more than a dog does. He is perfect in his niche. If he didnt successfully fill his niche, his specie never would have made it this far.

We destroy the niche we live in. Who is "smarter" or more successful in their niche? A human or a parakeet?

I think humans are a failure as a specie. 200k years ago we filled our niche perfectly. We blew it. A superbug or our own ignorance will do away with our specie. All specie die eventually.

All technology is founded in the following formula:

Creativity^Laziness = Technology
(that's Creativity to the power of Laziness = Technological advancements for those who slept through math)

Think about it. EVERY technological innovation ever created was founded by laziness.

a) Don't want to chase down a rabbit for dinner? Throw different shit at the rabbit until you realize that a pointy spear works great, and is reuseable.
b) Sick of grubbing around for food? Fuck around with plants long enought to realize that a seed actually creates a plant, then plant a farm next to your cave so you don't have to walk far to harvest dinner.
c) Running after wild pigs is a major pain, so pen in a few pigs, let them breed, then slaughter them in your own backyard.
...
y) Want to kill someone who pisses you off? Allocate millions of $ into a program that directs physicists and chemists to create a bomb that will kill those people at the push of a button while you take a crap.
z) Tired of bashing women in the head with your club and dragging them back to your cave for a little "lovey-dovey"? Whip out your credit card, and for only $29.99 a month... you know the rest.

Laziness is our mistress, and for some, a god.

This is intriguing, but prehaps we didnt destroy our niche, maybe the niche we are suppose to fill goes beyond our current comprehension. This would explain why our species continue to evolve while other species change remains idle. However I cant imagine our evolution going much further without self destruction

"We as humans went form spears to nukes in less then 500 years"
wouldn't really say it was that simple...
i think you're also looking at it like this:
we evolved so why didn't everything else... there is always a strong and a weak in an environment. so when the fish evolved to have huge teeth, there is still that original fish that is small.
do you believe in the way of science or of straight religion?

Higher level extraterrestials have been here for centuries breeding quietly into our civilization. Where do you think all this incredible technology is coming from? Come on look at how much has come out in the last 100 years. Something doesn't add up in that equation. Too much advancement in too short a time span.

We strive for putting less effort into life ( laziness ). At one point the universal will be 100% efficient ( Utopia ). 0*0=Infinity+1 = time * time = life ( My gay formula i just made up for trying to be smart ).... ignore my lack of intelligence.

Ummmm are you people nuts?

What about conscious thinking?

Conscious thinking is what seperates us from other animals (or at least thats what we think). Being aware of our existence is what makes us so special. Is a mouse concerned about death if he has no perception of it?

Our brainpower has not evolved in tens of thousands of years, just our technology. We once populated and conformed to fill a niche. However, we now make that niche conform to fit us. We no longer need to evolve now, because we can shape our surroundings until they meet our needs.

Actually, simpler creatures with shorter lives evolve much more quickly. You are equating change with evolution, but if you view evolution as "success in adaptation" a virus or bacterium can evolve much more quickly. We need a new flu vaccine every year, and the flu virus needs this in order to stay alive in the face of the rather sophisticated and adaptive immune systems of the creatures they infect.

Even a creature of a more mid-level of organization, such as a moth (http://animals.about.com/library/weekly/aa090901a.htm), can undergo an evolutionary change in just a few decades. A certain moth grew darker in England as the industrial revolution, with the use of coal, made surfaces on the whole darker than they were before this fuel came along.

Man, the physical entity has changed hardly at all in 10's of thousands of years, and relatively little in hundreds of thousands of years.

Technology is not evolution, because, for example, if we ran out of petroleum all of a sudden, we would go back pretty much to pre-industrial life in terms of our daily living situation, but our physical beings would change little, except in terms of health.

So, technology is actually environmental, not part of man, whereas evolution affects entity and not the environment.

Evolution operates on a vast time scale. It's way too soon to even decide of homo sapiens is a successful species. Both insects and plankton form a larger biomass, if you want to use that as a yardstick. The largest known creature on earth, once thought to be either a California redwood or a blue whale, is now known to be a fungus (http://www.newhouse.com/archive/story1b080700.html) right here in Oregon. It is 2,200 acres big and is estimated to be anywhere from 2,400 to 7,200 years old.

How evolved is THAT?

Great detailed post reguarding evolution, but why is it that the human species is the only one with serial killers, suicide, homosexuality, drug abuse, etc. Is it the enviroment that we have created for ourselves? Maybe are advanced minds sometimes drift? How can this be explained best?

And what would answering that question tell you? As a matter of fact, you are mostly incorrect. Depending on how you define those things, I could site an animal who does every one of them. Male predators go around killing babies of their own species willy-nilly, sparing only those carrying their own genes. Animals certainly do suicidal things, though for it to truly be suicide, I think we'd have to be sure to apply the term to animals who understand mortality. Perhaps the great apes fall into this category. Certainly higher animals can understand the "bobo got hurt and now he doesn't move" kind of mortality. As for homosexuality, it's a genetic thing and it appears in higher mammals. Lab rats will abuse addictive drugs given a chance, but the absense of rodent money probably means that the dealers won't be moving in on them anytime soon.

The main answer to your question is that mankind has the faults of a being who is as smart as he is, but he is no smarter today than he was several hundred, several thousand, or even several 10's of thousands of years ago. Look at all the astronomical accomplishments of people who weren't even in the bronze age yet, and certainly didn't know yet now to grind a lens, and you'll realize that it was all done with brain power.

Humans evolve no faster than other animals-- we change faster, though. Because while we are at the usual pace (or slowed-down) in terms of evolution, we also have society and technology, and that isn't limited by evolutionary standards.

The answer to why we have those things, and animals don't, is simpler. We hold ourselves to a higher standard... We expect humans to be moral, and notice when they aren't. As has already been said, animals have many of the crimes and atrocities that we do-- its just harder to see a human do it, because they should know better.

I find it interesting how people on this board have a far wider view of how we evolved than most people. In general, GFY people look at the facts and can see the world for what it really is.

The majority of people still think we came from adam & eve from some garden of eden. I can't understand how they can ignore the facts that are screaming at them everytime they watch the discovery channel. They were programmed at birth to have a narrow view and will stick with it until they die.

Can't they see that adam & eve was just the best explanation that people could come up with in bible times. People seriously need to update their views.
