An unbiased look at things; including why most of you are hypocrites.

Seeing as how I'm no longer really involved in the adult industry, for the moment anyhow, I thought some of you might like to hear an unbiased opinion on the current hot topic.

The majority of those complaining and bitching fall into four categories:

1) Hypocrites (or have selective memories)

This industry has been full of shady practices for over a decade. It's funny how many people condone screwing surfers or their fellow webmasters as long as it benefits their pocket, but only when it's something they aren't getting a piece of do they take on an attitude of righteous indignation.

For example, there are sites that re-sell access to the same content under the guise of different site names, the issue of shady cross-sales which has been beaten to death, dating sites which 99% completely screw the members and are actually committing fraud for the most part, some dialers back in the day and so on and so forth. Yet, all quickly seems forgiven as long as they are making you money.

2) Irrelevant (you do nothing in/for this industry but just like to stir up shit for your own amusement)

Why is it the majority of those bitching make very little money in this industry if they make any at all, contribute to the industry in no positive ways and couldn't sponsor a forum or buy traffic from a broker even if they wanted to. Some might just get a kick out of stirring people up, while others are just plain 'ol attention whores.

3) Envious / Jealous (you wish you could make the money those around you are making, but have tried and failed or in some cases haven't even tried)

Then we come across those who are envious of what tubes are doing. They wish they thought of the idea first but do nothing about it. Some have even gone so far as to try, failing, then bitching they cannot compete because these giants already have tons of stolen content, they were trying to be legal, etc... I guarantee that most if not all of these people, if they could setup a structure like PornHub and gain the same level of traffic, they would instantly do it without thinking twice. The fact is, they simply can't. They aren't that good.

4) Has-beens

Here lie people who many see as industry icons or legends, who hit their primes in the golden era of internet porn likely in the 90s or very early 2000s. While many people still pay them homage and worship them as Gods, the fact is many were just in the right place at the right time or got lucky with a solid idea or lack of competition. They made (and in many cases blew) millions of dollars and most, who never had real business experience, now have had a hard time adjusting to the fact they can't just leave things on auto-pilot anymore and expect to make the same money they once did. They blame whatever comes along as the latest industry enemy as the reason for their downfall instead of looking in the mirror.

So, for the most part, to all you wannabe "Champions of Justice" I say shut the fuck up and do some actual work, it'll benefit you a lot more

You guys make the gaming industry look like angels

All of these things are fact. I didn't read the text under them because I didn't have to - the bullet points are just plain true.

Yes this is why I said the majority of those complaining; there are also those who run their businesses cleanly and/or do have legitimate gripes against people stealing their content, as they should.

well, a has-been is an industry vet who's peaked and declined or is in decline. not necc. a bad thing. i think it does go bad when a has-been continues to try and have influence/participate in the same way as before in that industry.

thus my *thumbs up* was a smart ass remark to the hypocrisy of your *most of you are hypocrites* post.

not calling you a hypocrite, i don't know you, but i do find the topic to be that.

also seems weird to call most of us hypocrites in the thread title and the majority of the complainers to be hypocritical, irrelevant, envious, has-beens then give advice to the same to *stfu & get to work.* that's the funniest part too btw! think about it.

anyhoo, no big whoop to me, i just get a kick outta threads like these.

I guess you have some points there, though I didn't honestly expect someone to read this and go "damn, he's right, I should STFU and get to work"

Either way, though I'm no longer involved for the most part with this industry, I still think it's a great industry and I still have many friends in it I'd like to see succeed; I just think many people's focus is on the wrong priorities and wanted to express that.

pretty much.

here's something from another thread that i wrote. can't believe i wasted the 8 minutes to write it for most people to ignore it.

I'm not going into some crazy diatribe, but the world was not changed over night by Pornhub and Redtube and the like. These people have been trained by Youtube way before any porn tube site was even thought of. The majority of content has become valueless. Valueless in the eyes of professionals in the media space. People who know their shit. The new generation expects things to be free on the web now. Where the gap lies largely, is the expectation of ad supported networks. The adult business is very limited on what and/or who you can advertise. (I.E. Toyota isn't writing any of you a check). You can really only beat dating and cams so hard until you drown in the saturation of "Get laid in your city here".

Google some of the insights and published perspectives of some of the major tycoons in media if you want to see how the world is reacting. They're doing no better.

It's the world that's changing, not just the adult business. Nothing will be the same again, nothing. Ever.

You should hear the way that some of the mainstream affiliates are getting on about their space. Try promoting some of the verticals that they are. These guys are working for in many cases 20% of a sale. It's no better on the mainstream side of the fence if you don't know what you're doing.

Now, I'm not going to say adapt or die. It's far too generalized and overused. But I will say, look around, what will happen if you don't evolve to your new environment?

One thing is for sure; as one set of beliefs, techniques, and practices collapse, new opportunities to exploit the new consumer mindset are created. Taking full advantage of those new mindsets sometimes requires you to step back, take a deep breath, and take a look from the outside. Pioneering new approaches is essential. In the past few months I've seen some pretty crafty things going on out there to generate new cashflows. Take the time to look around carefully, not everything is what it appears to be. Something that you blow off as one thing may actually be another. I'm obviously not going to tell everyone how to make money in the new space because it's not yet done changing, just don't be afraid to stop. Stop and take a look around. A hard look around. Be open to the fact that you may need to make drastic changes in your practices.

One thing is for sure, the King has been overthrown. Content is no longer king, well, at least not in the mindset of the majority. We all know that people WILL pay for premium level products and products that can't be pilfered, getting in front of them and getting their ear and eyes for the time it takes to make the sale is now the trick.

Today, the chant is much different. Traffic isn't king anymore, traffic is the muffukkin pimp now, and content isn't queen, she's the muffukkin whore, and she's getting goon hand, pimp slapped all over the Interwebs right now.

Where do you want to be in 3-5 years as cheesy as it sounds? Wherever that is, what you're doing today, tomorrow, next week, next month, and on should be focused on that goal. Thinking short term cash and traffic grab anymore isn't an option, you need solid goals and milestones to gauge your progress.

Cash and traffic grab is over. Working harder and longer is what's on the menu. If you want to survive that is.

I'm no preacher so don't strike me down. Just a dude with an opinion.

Solid points I agree with. Even the cable TV / satellite providers are experiencing it; more and more people are simply watching their TV fix online (and not just via torrents, but more sites like Hulu). Ad-supported networks are the present but you are right, adult is limited to what it can advertise and thus is more heavily affected.

As much as people bitch about tubes, I have been privy to some of the larger ones' statistics regarding surfers who upgrade to premium memberships; the numbers are pretty substantial. What are they really getting, besides high quality streams? This demonstrates their willingness to both support sites they appreciate and pay for higher quality products. Most paysites around just aren't offering the surfer a high quality experience anymore.

To look at it in a different way, I use a website to watch hockey from CR called hockeystreams.com. While I could watch the games for free across a wide variety of places easily enough, I appreciate the quality and functionality their site offers and am happy to pony up the cost for the season of access.

Many people are just so out of touch with what the modern surfer wants; that's the true reason behind their decline.
