He reiterates the main point people should be focusing on if you want success.

Create a site with good content. The rest takes care of it's self.

Ah, he is talking about, registering a domain for 1 year at a time, or pay all 10 years at once. It makes no difference..... cool.

The age of the domain, is still a factor in ranking though. He never said that wasn't the case.

i know for a fact that age of a domain comes into play. especially after the first year..

i have new mainstream sites that recently hit the year mark and they shot up after the first update..

i was about to give up on them because i couldnt understand why they were ranking so low considering the unique/quality content i had..

Very misleading title, Gene. That is not what he said at all. Age of the domain means a lot. How long you register it for each time, not so much.

Just wondering, why would a Google employee speak the truth about this? It's something they don't want exploited.

It matters, its obvious and logical. How much it matters is another question.

Age of domain doesnt matter whatsoever. Nothing new here.

Age since domain went LIVE does. End of story.

I tend to agree with this. That's why I said "I don't know about this" in my original post above. Case in point: I've had experience with domains that were 5 years old or so ranking well almost as soon as they were developed/backlinked. Compare that with instant sandboxing for domains less than a year old. WG may have a point when he said at another thread--take what Matt Cutts says and do the exact opposite

Regardless, everyone's experience differs. Opinion follows experience.

Google announces a new KEY ADDITION to their Web Spam team:

"There is no such thing as duplicate content"

"Class C hosting doesn't matter"

"Domain age doesn't matter"

"Yes! We CAN filter backlinks based on theme relevance"

ad nauseum...

Agreed, the initial registration date does play a part. Just like hyphens play a part.

What he, and Google, typically say in these types of interviews or conferences is that if you focus on good original content, that other domain name shit becomes irrelevant in the bigger picture. Which is true.

He is trying to stop the ShoeBitch's, arbitragers, and other people who practice the dark arts to stop trying to game the search engines and build websites that have some value.

That's the point.
