Wow, that is definitely wrong. Imagine having a criminal attack you, you wrestle his gun away only to face mandatory prison for doing so.

I can't possibly see this guy actually doing time over this. It's absolute madness if he does. Charged, alright ok, if they want to impose their stupid fucking law in this way, so be it. If they actually sentence him to serve time over it, they are fucking insane. What the fuck is going wrong with the UK these days? Seriously, you guys are in worse fucking shape than the States by a long shot....

It's better to report something like that anonymously from a pay phone and then walk away. A lot of cops will nab you for something if they can, even if you're doing the right thing.
Kind of reminds me of the guy in the US who reported some child porn site to local police, legitimately thinking he was doing the right thing, then later having the cops barge into his place and arrest him on obscenity charges. They took all his computer equipment and made his life hell for a while. Happened maybe 8 or 9 years ago I think, heard about it on one of the wm boards.

i do not think you will find many in the uk defending the law these days. bvasicly if you find a gun in the uk, just walk away. if a kid pics it up and shoots somone or himself, so be it. no point doing the 'right thing' these days. i hate living in england at the moment to be honest. the old ussr had more freedom, plus they got the trains to run on time, we do not even have that.

No evidence contradicted the defendant's testimony that he intended to assist law enforcement officers, and much evidence supported the story. Nonetheless, jurors took only 20 minutes to find Clarke guilty. Why? Because jurors were told that the law under which Clarke was charged was a "strict liability" offense, meaning that Clarke was automatically guilty of illegal possession regardless of his intent. This case is another example of how the erosion of traditional mens rea requirements in the criminal law is leading to the conviction of ordinary citizens.

I wouldn't blame you at all. If I had to choose one first-world nation that was driving straight for a people's revolution, the UK has got to be it. Shit is gonna get real volatile over there one of these days judging by the news that's coming out from there. People can only deal with so much shit before they start snapping...

And the cameras on the streets with speakers so that the surveillance crews can bark orders at you when they catch you doing something they deem "wrong" like jay walking or littering. I know closed circuit surveillance cameras are a huge thing over there with one or more on pretty much every single block. It's pretty damned crazy really. No joking... |

For the people blaming the jury, it is not their fault that the law is what it is. The question is, what will the court sentence him to? The article makes it sound like it is a mandatory five years. I don't know British judges at all. Will they go against the book? |

This is definitely something the public should be in an uproar over. Shame you're not going to see that, and an innocent man is going to rot away for 5+ years in a cell.

Leave then.
I hate it when people complain about something they can really easily change. You live on your own in a council house. You have no family, no ties to England at all. So fuck off if you don't like it. Simples. |

Lawyers, judges, cops, the governments alike make their living off of people doing "crimes" By him turning in that weapon he's taking a perfectly good weapon off the street which could have been used in a crime for them to prosecute. And those jury members can't wait for someone to come and kick in their doors wielding a weapon ready to rob, rape and kill them. A lot of the rest of the populace would probably just shrug their shoulders if they found out it was the cops who did it.

While there is no way the guy should have been charged or go to prison, it was kinda stupid picking the gun up and taking it to the police station.
If I found a gun in my back garden, there's no way I'd touch it. I'd ring the cops and let them come collect it. You'd have no idea what the gun was used for and having your fingerprints on it or smudging existing prints would be a risk I wouldn't be willing to take.

i don't think they can do this, i am sure if they lock him up, it will cause problems with human rights organisation no matter what the law is, this sounds very much like china, we made the law so we apply to the letter. Its just insane to ruin some ones life just because its a written law that is so not correct.
This would mean that every one owning a fire arm is in trouble, but geuss they made some exceptions for police men and soldiers, then they should also put an exception for people returning, no matter if that is a police station.
