I got my daugther a limited edition 1990 grand am turbo coupe when she turned 16, car had an over sized turbo on a big v6, bright red and fat tires with a heads up display. I sold it when she went in the Navy for the same thing I bought it for. Pretty cool car for a first car

I think you mean a Turbo Grand Prix? Only reason I ask is cuz i have owned a few of those cars, back when i was younger. Extremely rare, they only produced them for two years, 89 and 90. And only about 2500 of them each year. You should have held on to that piece!

yeah, that was it, only came in black and red, ugly rims. Car was fast and fun. It was a one time thing with callaway. I got a good price for it, only had one flaw on a fiberglass piece. Hard to get parts for it, and I ripped out the shitty stereo. I just didn't have a need for it and she wants to get a hybrid when she gets out of the Navy

Kids don't appreciate things like that as much as if they had to earn the money and buy it themselves.

I would never give a kid an item like that.

i agree. when i was younger i was pissed that i couldnt get my parents to buy me a car. all my friends were getting cars when they were 16 and i was stuck leaching rides from them.

so i got a job and right after my dad said he would pay for the car, but i would have to pay him out of my paycheck... honestly, appreciated the car a LOT more then friends i had who drove 10x better cars

I could have thought about it that way, but instead I saw the 4.0 GPA and didn't want her in a piece of crap. I only have one kid, she got everything, yes even a pony
But she's not spoiled, serving in the Navy and then going to college and then medical school, I have no regrets about how she was raised. She's also my best friend

Its been sitting in my garage for a year and a half. I paid to have it fixed up to pass safety inspection, put a tank of gas in it and paid for 3 months insurance and told him now he has the wheels to get him to a part time job to pay for gas and insurance or it sits in the garage again ;)

BC insurance is brutal... especially for Noob (N sticker) drivers.

I agree... when things are just given to you, then it has no value. I'd rather help them get financing and maybe make some payments for them, but no way would I just outright give them a car..

Im more concerned with him wrecking himself.

My mother's younger brother died in a car accident at 17 (he was the driver). And my husbands older brother died in a car accident at 19 (he was the driver). Ironically both events happened same month same year of eachother.

Sabby, Suggestion get him AAA roadside coverage or something comparable I got my daughter a 2001 Intrigue and it was worth it when the alternator went a week ago and I was out of town. Luckily it was in the day because she travels to the BF's house late at night and works late too. Oh and make sure he has the fucking card in the glove box and knows how to use it. Boys handle it better than girls but only a suggestion we live in the country and help is far and few between.
