heh, I dunno about the best, but they are one of the best selling bands, definately innovators, were one of the first big bands to incorperate electronic loops in their songs paving the way for all modern sounding *insert anything*.

Funny I was on a trance kick, and somehow ended up in a Pink Floyd revival this month after 10 years of not listening, I even watched "The wall", which turns out not to be great when you are sober.

One of the best concerts I've ever attended was Pink Floyd at the old football stadium in Tampa.

I had center floor seats just far enough back to take in the whole stage. Awesome show with plenty of visuals but what really struck me was the quality of sound. They did the " Money " song and had place speakers around the perimeter of the stadium so when they did that part where the cash register rings up the sound direction worked it's way around the stadium in perfect surround sound and it was incredible.

I watched them inside a football stadium and the sound was like listening to them with a high end set of headphones

Talent wise... it's hard to argue. They weren't band boys that used a few instruments and noises to make songs.

They produced and created classical music, operas and such. They took the old, the new, and the unknown and created an entirely new type of music.

They created remarkable music that has lasted... love or hate them, the talent it takes to create the songs they have - greatly surpasses anyone else I can think of.

I was at that show too, except my nose was bleeding. The sound was still fantastic and drum work unbelievable.

Definitely top-10 band of all time ... [cough on drugs cough]

Pink Floyd is great and certainly earned their place in the top tier. Unlike the Rolling Stones most of their recorded material is good. But any band that puts out more than 1 or 2 albums is going to have some low points which will ultimately detract from the best band ever conversation. So really the best band ever is the Sex Pistols. They put out one great record and disappeared.

Fuck pink floyd!

Not a chance. Overrated is more like it. There was another band out back then, still recording and touring to this day that pioneered much more than Pink Floyd but never gets near the amount of credit.

Give it up for....

The Moody Blues

The Moody Blues were the first band to record an album in stereo. One of, if not the first to experiment with a Moog synthesizer. They were an early experimental band, fusing rock, blues and a plethora of psychedlic sounds. They also incorporated classical music into their rock albums.

Their first seven albums are brilliant. Be sure to give these albums a listen:

Days of Future Passed
In Search of the Lost Chord
To Our Children's Children's Children
A Question of Balance
Every Good Boy Deserves Favour
Seventh Sojourn

Fuck Pink Floyd...All hail The Moody Blues!

It's mind boggling when you think about how many classic albums they put out. DSOTM, Animals, Wish You Were Here, The Wall, Meddle. If I had to name the best 3 bands of all time, I would have to name them, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. With The Clash a close fourth. Amazing that they are all British bands.

There were actually a number of good bands doing that sort of thing back then. They called it art rock back in the day.

This critic would seem to share your opinion of Pink Floyd however...

I think the critic is full of shit myself.

I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd doing The Wall at the Nassau Coliseum. Best concert I ever saw.

Of course, the Moody Blues kicked ass too...

But, like I said, there were a number of bands doing that sort of music back then...

There is this band from Oregon called "Floater" that has been around for years and most people always called them a cross between Pink Floyd and Tool. Might be someone new a couple of you might like. Here are a couple of their songs. I can't seem to post videos so here are some links

Here is a link to some of their songs. (The stuff from "Angels in the Flesh & the Devil in the Bone" are my favorite.

Below are some random videos.

Snowblind (This song starts off a little slow but shows alot of their diversity in their songs.

Settling

The Watching Song (Live)

Persecutor (Live)

Weightless (at Kink)
