Going to Bangkok and Ko Samet in 4 Days - Must Sees??

Okay so I am going to Bangkok in 4 days to visit a friend of mine for 4 days and then to Ko Samet for 3 days.

Anything I must see or do in Bangkok?
I have already noted

Bangkok River Dinner Boat Cruise

Temple Wat Phra Kaeo
Baiyoke II Tower
MBK + Siam Shopping Centre
Golden Mount + Wat Saket Temple

Anything else?

Advices much appreciated

Bangkok
* Suan Lum Night Bazaar
* RCA night club district. I recommend the clubs Route 66 and Flix/Slim.
* Siam Paragon

* National muay thai boxing stadium to see a real muay thai fight. (Right next to Suan Lum night bazaar.)
* If you want to visit the red light district then Nana Plaza (Sukhumvit soi 4) and Soi Cowboy (Sukhumvit soi 21).

Koh Samet
* Don't take the slow ferry from the mainland but a speedboat just a few extra bucks and you save like 40 minutes if not more.
* Make sure you go on one of the speedboat snorkeling tours. Some great snorkerling waters in Koh Samet.
* Not too much to do on Koh Samet it's more of a relax island so would just recommend you doing that.

And if you spend the wekeend in Bangkok a must visit is Chatuchak market or JJ market as it's also called. It's crazy and you can do a lot of nice finds!

Ayutthaya is about 1.5 hours away from Bangkok and you can hire a taxi for about $50 for the day (maybe you can get it cheaper but I was more than happy to pay $50 CAD for a day of air conditioned travel). It was one of my favorite day trips I have had.

I also really liked chatchuchak market but you have to go on a Saturday or Sunday. Also get there early to avoid the craziness.

If you are looking for a hotel I recommend Furama Asoke.

lets see, i know some guys like Pattaya but it is a dirty cesspool with no real scenery except for old foreign perverts looking to bang cheap young hookers. the sea is dirty and the streets are dirtier. a waste of time unless u are desperate.

watch the news about the protests when u get to BKK so u can avoid those areas. it might be wrapped up by then but these idiots may hang around for a couple more weeks.

u got a pretty short trip planned. it will be over before u know it. stay cool (its already 100+ F / 40+ C) and drink lots of water in the day so u can go all night

Drop Ko Samet and go to Koh Chang instead.
Stay at my friend place "Koh Chang Hut" on white sand beach...just after Plaloma resort.
Get a nice room on the cliff and listen to the waves crashing while banging whatever you like. You even get your own private mini beach down the cliff...

In BKK , go to Phantip Plaza to see all the computer stuff...

The restaurant that is part of the Celadon Hotel is great for dinner. The Mandarin Oriental has the most incredible lunch buffet of the most gourmet foods.

Traffic

All you can drink in the hotel for 360 Baht (about $8)

At a gas station I bought some original Krating Daeng, which Mateschitz copied pretty successfully for the world market in 1987 as "Red Bull". It tastes identical (not carbonated though) and the bottle was about 20 cents...

Finally good looking cars

I remember Koh Chang when it was just beach huts, how many hotels now?

So much to do in Bangkok 4 days is not enough. But once you've experienced the heat, pollution and traffic 4 days is more then enough. however if you're their for the weekend Chatchuchak market is a must see though. And if you like palaces see the Royal Palaces.

About 4 hotels now, they were still building when I left last June.

Nice photos btw, I've never been on an A380, good to know they've up'd the screen sizes.

Good that you have Wat Phra Kaeo (Temple of the Emerald Budddha), which should also include a tour of the Grand Palace.

Skip Baiyoke and MBK--if you want to shop in Bangkok, get a suit made. Or go to Chatuchak market.

I like Vimanmek Palace: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vimanmek_Palace
I like Wat Arun: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wat_Arun

Definitely hit a floating market--I like Damnoen Saduak.

Jim Thompson House is cool. Also have a dinner buffet along the Chao Phraya river at either the Sheraton, the Oriental or the Shangri-La. I love eating at the Chao Phraya.

My first trip to Thailand was only 4 days too… I was passing through on a trip to Australia. For 1 whole year I could not stop thinking about Bangkok and everything I saw and experienced over that 4 days… I just had to get back there ASAP… I’m sure you’re going to feel the same way. I’ve been back to Thailand now 12 times, Bangkok, Pattaya, and Koh Samet.
Thanks for the photos… you took some classic shots.
