https://youtube.com/user/congressmanbilbray

I was watching Fox news this morning, I like this guy, The US shouldn't allow this to happen anymore, IMO

How do you feel about it?

Its not just the US.
And why not, its a great way to get some diversity into the US other than Mexican immigrants and other people of poverty.

Allowing tourist birth residency is your idea to inspire diversity? LOL.

The United States has to be one of the most, if not the most, diverse countries in the world. I don't know how many times I'm talking to somebody in Europe and they say "I very rarely see a black person."

Well first of all i can drive through 5 countries in Europe in under 4 hours.
I just dont see the problem with this law, its the same in a LOT of other places.
Its not like you are going to get flooded by that.

Besides diversity is not having a Black guy, a china man and a Mexican
Its having pockets from all or most countries all over the world.
Make it a little more worldly and a little less American Thump Thump

Granted LA and a few other places do have something like that, but still.

Well as long as babies born to Americans that are out of country aren't considered REAL Americans then it should be allowed.

WTF? If a child is born to American Citizens in another country, they aren't real Americans? Are you mental?
Or is this about McCain born on a US base in another country?

That law came about because of the Civil War. It was the answer to the Dred Scott decision, if I am not mistaken.

tourist babies? of course not. make come common sense of it.

The child should be a citizen of the location where their parents are legitimate citizens and should not gain citizenship of the location where they happened to be born just by circumstance (i.e., my parents are legitimate Americans.... I should not be a German citizen just because I happen to be born in Munich. I should be an American citizen born abroad, plain and simple, but based on the citizenship of my parents and the laws at the time I was born.).

That would be the common understanding in many jurisdictions-the child takes the mother's residency status. But the history of this jurisprudence in the US ran smack against the issue of slavery. How, after the Civil War, do you address the latter without cancelling the former?

Here's the issue: It might not that be a big deal....... Here's why. If your parents are tourists and you were born in the US and you go back to your parents' country, you can only have legal capacity to claim your citizenship when you turn 18. So you get to go to the USA when you're 18 but your parents can't join you. You have to petition them in. Takes a few years.

I'm not saying it's completely trivial but probably accounts for a small % of immigration issues. Plus, a birth tourist child petitioning his parents fall within LEGAL migration. They don't get to cut in line completely--they still have to go through the process.

Like everything politicians do, it just seems like a way for this guy to fire up his base by tapping into anti-immigration sentiment within his party.

Nothing but shameless pandering. This "birth tourism" problem is so small and so rare the fact that this congressman is devoting time to it should be enough to vote him out of office for incompetence. It's like the CEO of a company making it his top priority to make sure the office has enough paper clips.

If 2 Americans are on vacation in another country and the wife is pregnant and gives birth in another country that child is ineligible to run for President. Saying you can't run for President implies you're not a REAL American. It's bullshit, but that's what it implies. McCain being born in the Panama Canal Zone is different is different since it was considered American territory at the time. I didn't even mention McCain so I'm not sure why you even broguht it up. Not everything is about politics.

IN the US it does not matter if the child is born in the US or not, it does not help mom and dad 1 bit. they can still be deported.

Our president needs to be held at a high standard and this is political, it's a politician thats running with this bill to change things, keeping illegal aliens from crossing the border and getting on welfare for having a baby is the main reason. At least the one I can think of, we as a nation, or even a state can't afford it anymore.

How many times per year does it happen that illegal aliens sneak across the border to drop a baby? I'm guessing it's a vanishingly small number.

Oh, that's right, they don't use numbers on Fox.

San Bernardino County spent nearly $64 million in state and federal money last year to provide welfare benefits to the American-born children of illegal immigrants. Maybe you should broaden your news watching to less liberal news shows and get non-biased facts.

It does if they are here illegally, or are doing so to get welfare, have you noticed the economy?

If you don't watch FOX, you'll only get what the Liberal media puts out, Fox reports from the right, I know that, but you need to get all the facts to be truly informed
