Journalists seem to think that having TV or PRESS on their coat makes them invincible and quite often put themselves in a really stupid position that no sane person would even consider.

Also, when I was watching about it on the television last night all the signs and shop names and everything were in Thai so having PRESS written on them counts for nothing if nobody can understand what it says.

ya every government has been warning against travel to Thailand for at least a year.

i was just down where this is taking place at the beginning of the week. its a pretty isolated area. the media is making it out to be a country-wide battle but its only about 4-6 square blocks or so.

just avoid that area and there's no risk of gunfire. i had to go to the US embassy so there was no choice. of course now most embassies are closed until the "war" is over.

Crazy shit indeed. I was supposed hit the embassy this week as well to get pages added into my passport but it looks like thats not going to happen within the next few days. Hopefully they open it soon. One benifit this chaos gives us is an extra slow, slow season.

I'd never seen a dead body that wasn't a relative at a funeral before Thailand. In the same week I seen a twisted motorbike driver and a pickup truck in flames outside Don Muang airport. Look at reports during Songkran, a lot of Thais (and foreigners) think it's ok to drive drunk and during this holiday week the accident rate jumps to the thousands with tens sometimes hundreds dead.

If you haven't seen a beggar in Bangkok you've never been or you've been chauffeured everywhere.
