I just watched the film Food Inc.

Do you agree with the comments/arguments from this film?

Not 100% sure what to make of it.

I haven't seen this one specifically but I can only imagine after seeing some other videos about foods etc...

If you try to eat healthy its like fucking impossible, everything you buy is junk even plain fucking fruits and vegetables have tons of pesticides and crap on it. Thats just wrong, I need to look through like 20 different brands of items on the ingredients list before I can even find something I would eat, and its not even my top choice, its just the one thats not as shitty as the others.

I eat mostly just plain stuff, baked chicken, fruits, occasionally some veggies (eww), lots of snacks like taking natural organic peanut butter on bananas and shit like that, i have like 20 different types of nuts and grains and dried fruits i mix together etc etc but its SOOOOO EXPENSIVE. Why is a processed fucking twinkie cheaper than just some plain nuts or dried berries or something? Thats what I don't get.

I do not eat ANYTHING with more than maybe 2 grams of added sugar in it (doesnt count fruits etc) and nothing that uses artificial sweetener to replace that sugar (ie sugar free cookies or the like). That really gets most of the junk food out of your diet and will get you on the right track but then you need to watch for trans fats, artificial sweeteners, dyes, and like 20 other things. Just makes me want to give up to be honest.

Anyone else pay attention to what they eat?

I did not watch this film. I worked as a security guard in a barn for a short time. Yeah, the cow's meat is eaten and the cow's milk is used as drink.

"He speaks through the cows," they said. No, it's not the Diablo cow level. This must have been something more true to life. Sometimes I'd rather not use my memory, because my memory is filled with impossible possibilities actually.

Big Agra has now infiltrated and corrupted almost every government body that has been tasked with protecting and ensuring the safety of our food supply. It's also no stretch that Big Agra will always (absent of meaningful and enforced regulation) act in it's own best interest to put THEIR PROFIT ahead of OUR HEALTH. Coupled together, it doesn't say much for the quality of our food these days.

Local farms use pesticides too. The exception would be organic farms.

AND YOU THOUGHT just ORGANIC WAS OK!!!!!

“100% organic” - single ingredient such as a fruit, vegetable, meat, milk and cheese (excludes water and salt).

“Organic” - multiple ingredient foods which are 95 to 100% organic.

“Made with organic ingredients” - 70% of the ingredients are organic. Can appear on the front of package, naming the specific ingredients.

“Contains organic ingredients” - contains less than 70% organic ingredients.

Got this from the USDA website

I really agree with this. It is so damned tricky. What do you buy? Where do you buy it? Like today the family and I went to the farmers market as we do every weekend. It was cheap and locally grown but does that farm use pesticide or not? They can easily lie and say no. I think the only way to fully know is to grow your OWN fruits and vegetables. Lots of people on plant only diets but geez I sure like a big fat burger! lol

Watched it a while ago and found it was basically an introductory lesson on a few different things. If you want to know more about each topic in the movie, there's tons of doc films and research out there.

Basically? Know what you're eating, to the best of your ability. Let your retailers know what you want. Shop for local first and foremost. Then freshest / best practices / shortest traveling distance and time. Don't trust labels too much unless you've done your research.

Like Michael Pollan says: Eat good food, mostly plants, and not too much.

Its easy to show the problems but harder to come with a solution.
If they'd stop making all that industrialized food you'd all be starving.
